i had 2 round of interview in onsite first round: 2 problems asked and solved both second round (a senior manger and a senior dev) asked a quesitons and solve it : said variable name is confusing but code is good then asked a design q: answered it after the design, was asked a bunch of random questions: a) how would u implement array list in java. coded b) asked how would u represents words in a dictionary for spell check explained can use hashmap or trie he asked if u do a hashmap, what hash function would u use? i said rolling hash technique(he didnt agree with sha, md5, etc,.) he said what if collision..was thinking about handling and time ended. gave me few mins to end the interview for questions (reg interview ) in the last min, another manager entered the video call for interview, but this manger who is in call asked him to drop off(politely and said we will notify u after we wrap up and the other manager dropped off) this manager wrapped up and said we will get back after 5-10 mins, recruiter comes and says we are done with your interview, and we will get you the feedback on Monday. i am sure it is a reject as just 2 rounds in BB means reject. i solved the problems well in 2 rounds, answered all the questions except for hashing..did my best. what could be the reason they didnt choose to proceed with me? while i am not concerned about getting this offer from BB, i am not able to get over it. is there any likability reasons why they reject me? i am trying to accept the reject, and understand there's some luck, but i am still not able to get over this and is bothering me. sorry about the rant. venting out my frustration due to reject. #bloomberg #reject
99.999% of the time 2 round is reject.
yeah i certainly dont feel i am lucky to be in that 0.001% lol
You probably gave out impression that u r giving those interviews for practice for faang
Don’t worry too much about it. Bb is infamous for their erratic interviews. They’ve rejected people for something as trivial as the candidate using a language feature they haven’t heard of :p
i had 2 phone rounds with them and then invited to onsite. I was in exact same situation as you. I had my 2 onsite rounds for MLE and the first round was coding, which I did okay, the second round was ML design which I blew their mind. There were 3 people in the interview, one was manager(on another team), the other 2 were teammates. The manager was really impressed with my answers and he said your next interview will be with this person. However, the senior team member was not interested in the interview at all, she even didn’t bother to ask questions. I figured something was off with her. As soon as the other team’s manager said, your next interview is going to be with someone, she interrupted him and said your recruiter will be in touch with you. I was like WTF! the worst and most humiliating experience ever and I am glad I didn’t get to work there but it took me a few day to get over it. I was so angry and felt so humiliated. I didn’t know that was the norm at BB, which is the shittiest interview process.

We’re super anal on an optimal solution (doesn’t have to be code) but at least talking it out. If you got tripped up on something see so straightforward as hashing it can easily be taken as a huge red flag.
did u read my post properly? he asked me to implement a hashing logic for characters, and i provided rolling hash technique, and other options like using md5, sha. providing rolling hash technique isnt tripping. I told, if there's a collision, i can form LL and reduce it to BST (which is what java 8 does) and he wanted me to come up with an algorithm which hashes 500k unqiue english words with no collision For the 2 questions that were asked i provided , coded solution that was optional. in the remaining 5-10 mins (with 10 mins kept towards the end), he started asking a bunch of random questions and this is one amongst them. In the hindsight, i could clearly see the interviewer had some unconscious bias and was finding some reason to reject me. I have moved on, accepting that hiring doesnt have to be always fair, and humans do have unconscious bias.
I have onsite interview in couple of weeks. Phone screen went well got response in a day. Seeing the comments I feel scared. Would need serious help on topics to cover. Not clear though if they ask design question like faang or OOPS and related basic questions.
Hey, can you give some tips on what to expect? I have my phone interview in 2 days 🙏
