I'm the worst performer on my team and it shows every sprint review when I am the only guy who still has outstanding tickets in review or in progress while everyone else is mostly done. My teammates are smart and hard working. I don't have any excuses really. It's taking a toll on my mental health and I'm just so embarrassed to even show my face. I had a stretch of a few weeks where I worked 60 hours and could complete my sprints but I quickly burned out. My manager has said my pace is "slightly slow" but I think he's just sugar coating it, my pace is very slow compared to my teammates.
Yoe ? And how long u have been in snowflake ?
Atleast your manager was sugarcoating it, mine says it straight to my face at times. Are you overcommiting or lack the skills to complete the work? You should find the answer to that first. If overcommiting, try not to take much items in sprint planning, give proper estimates, even if you feel it’s more. It’s normal to underestimate sometimes and give less estimates , just because your teammates are doing so. If you lack the skills , then there is another way to go. Upskill yourself, ask help from a teammate, ask for a mentor etc etc. I can understand what you feel like , but learning and excelling at something new takes time, just understand that and don’t feel overwhelmed
Undercommit n overdeliver. If your manager is ok you should be ok too
Is there a chance that your work is more complex?
Are you being pushed to commit to more in spring planning or can you back it off a little and mention a stretch item that you can bring in if you're able to complete the rest? Also, are you burning time on lots of iterations during code review, inefficient build sequences, or anything that could be scripted to save you 3 minutes here and 11 minutes there?
You need to undercommit . What’s the blocker ? Ask your lead or principal for tips . If you stuck immediately ask someone don’t wait .
are you overcommitting each sprint?
I don't believe so but it's hard to compare objectively. We mostly have separate projects and score our own tickets and my weekly targets are in line with everyone else. I don't believe anyone else is inflating their points (and neither am I).
theres a good chance youre just honest about your work and other people are inflating/bullshitting…i see it all the time. think about it harder
