Laid off AWS huge pay cut for a passion company
Hey everyone, Just wanted to give some perspective. I was bounced out of AWS on the RIF. My total comp was 750. I’ve really been soul searching trying to figure out what’s next. I just received an offer for a place I really want to work. Problem…it’s a 500k pay cut. I have other interviews going, nothing is matching up against aws but it’s a bigger cut than I hoped for. New TC would be 240 but way better lifestyle. Whelp I think I’m going for it. Who knows. Follow the dream everyone
240k is more than what you are making right now. Take the job and maybe keep looking.
This is very true. I take this, I keep severance, don’t pay for cobra insurance etc. But also, this is a place that grabs me. Culture, people, fun. Aws was a freaking death march. I was a manager there.

How long have you been searching? I feel like you'd be settling. But maybe it's worth taking and trying out while you keep interviewing for something better.
Been searching since April. I’ve had two offers from tech and they are not much better.
April is not that long ago. Do you have visa constraints? Do you have money constraints? If not, have you considered trying a bit longer?
Oh I forgot: I have 24 years of experience. Worked in some FAANG, worked at MSFT.
If you landed offer 240 it means you deserve 240. If you was in RIF with 750, it means you do not deserve 750. Your yoe not relevant here
So everyone's TC reflects exactly what they deserve at all times? Interesting.
