Was laid off from Meta in November as SDE. Still haven’t been able to land a job. How are my laid off metamates doing? YOE: 6 SDE Tc before: 300k Tc now: 0k
Me too! Still actively looking.
So sad… worst timing
Haven't been able to find a job. Some people say it will get better after New Year, but I'm a new grad and not from the US so I am pesimistic. Worst part is I only was about two weeks in and signed a lease with no way to get out.
Wow this layoff really screwed us over. Hows the job search for new grads? All the positions listed on linkedin are for senior+
It's terrible. I got a large sign on bonus and will have to spent most of it on rent for an apartment I won't even be able to use if I don't get a job.
Were you a newbie there?
Yeah joined in September and was stuck in bootcamp :(
still in bootcamp ?
Was very unprepared when got laid off. Gave a bunch of screens and failed. Have improved since through mock interviews and leetcode grind. Got 3 onsites; rejected by two and moving forward with one (Google) but it isn't clear if or when they'll give offer due to team match hell. Most probably going back to India and will continue search from there.
Did you explore moving to B2 option? Any risks?
Wish you luck with google You can do it!! Are you on h1b? Whens the deadline?
Your 60 days should start from jan 13
DM for Rippling, if interested
Hey I’m an ML research engineer at Intel. Interested. Can you refer?
Got a new job that came with a ~30% pay bump (due to RSU stock drop). Still interviewing to see if another company can give me more. After layoffs I no longer have any qualms about reneging my offers. I will say I looked into smaller companies as the big ones are all not hiring.
A small company gave you a pay bump? How are you calculating their stock options/RSU? You know a lot of them have inflated valuations right?
by “smaller” I’m assuming you mean Series C/D since those would be only ones giving pay bump
Laid off from Meta recruiting and it’s been brutal. Every other tech company laid off their recruiters too so competition is as intense as it can be, and each role is flooded with hundreds of apps within a day. I’ve had just two phone screens since Nov which went nowhere. Not to mention very few roles are full remote now so you are severely limited by your location. When I was previously laid off in 2020 during covid I landed a new role within 4 weeks.
Maybe time to gain a skill set
^ cringe
Didn't get impacted, but I'm actively interviewing. Got 1 offer after applying to ~200 companies and interviewing with 12 companies or so 😞 It's definitely tough out there
Was the offer good? Did you take it?
Wow that is pretty bad ratio for someone who previously passed Meta’s interview. Are you eng?
