When I asked the reason as to why during the layoff notification , they told they don’t want to go into reasons and I was reminded that I signed an at Will employment. They offered me a paltry sum to sign a document which had a clause about not suing etc which I didn’t sign . Was there at this startup for 11 months and my options were about to vest . Nothing documented about performance appraisal, daily stand ups where progress was reported and nothing was made known to me . Had a new ‘manager’ come in 2 months ago who wants to bring in his buddies , I argued with him and we had a heated discussion. He apologized for initiating the fight and agreed he was in the wrong and the layoff happens next , in the interim he of course acted like a sweet chick. Edit : To clarify the argument was purely technical, he was trying to say I didn’t execute the project as per design after 2 months and when the project was near completion. He didn’t even read the document and wasn’t paying attention during daily stand ups . I made him read it, he apologized. I thought that was the end of it What are my options ? I have to find something really quickly though as I am on a visa .

Your options aren’t much. You could ask that in addition to severance they write you a glowing reference. But in reality just take the severance
atleast ask gor 4/6 weeks pay and not lumpsum
