Hello fellow techies I am a software engineer just completed 1 year at Meta and got laid of on 9th November. I am based out of Vancouver Canada. TC : ~ 200k U$ ( at time of joining it was 280k) Level: E5 YoE: 8.5 I am a PR so no visa issue Options: 1. Google offer ( L4 valid from last year ~ 160k U$ (base : 130k C$ + 15%bonus + 258kU$/4Years RSU), I have asked them for L5 but for that I'll have to re-interview) . They are yet to find a team for me. Canada headcount are much lower and hiring slow down and year end make it worse. 2. Lyft : initial conversation 3. Offer from tier 3 companies hadn't heard of them before ( cloudTrucks, Paxos etc) : ~150k 4. Jane street (NY based, Trading fintech, hadn't heard of this before but seems reputed in finTech space) - 420k U$ (Base: 270k + target Bonus & commission: 150k ) 🤑 : Still some complications as I am not Canadian Citizen which they assumed so I might need H1b or remote position) - Recruiter working on immigration support or converting it into remote position so offer might change as per Canada salaries. 🤞 Confused with my options, what other folks are finding? Should I be willing to take a paycut as market isn't great at this time or wait for some time and only join at a good offer? Thanks in advance #google #layoff #meta #faang #swe #software Edit 1 : Added Jane street as option 4 Edit 2 : Added JS offer and G offer breakup as requested by some of you in comments :-)
Don’t have a career break. Join company that you could find. You can always jump the ship when market is good.
@cnfused, is apple hiring? I had an offer from Apple last year but joined Meta. :-(
I have no idea. Seems to be way slower than usual at the moment.
I would reinterview Google. If you fail, you can still get L4
Is that how it works? I cleared L4 with Google but have been waiting for TM. Doesn’t look it’ll happen this year and I’m afraid time will run out.
Is there a time limit on TM?
Why is TC so low?
Canada
Google seems better than nothing
It might be worth searching a bit longer. Taking Google now means loosing a great potential opportunity, specially since he was low balled.
Take pay cut: soon you may find pay is even lower. So lock it and move on till economy improves and then you can jump and get higher TC
Lyft is hiring?
Everyone is always hiring except they never fucking make the hire call 🙄
Yup
Join the ugly startup and jump ASAP for Google or anything better. Don't stay out of job
What's the Google offer breakdown in CAD
(base : 130k C$ + 15%bonus + 258kU$ RSU)
No signing bonus?
Update when you know the JS offer details, probs we'll come in beating the $ of the others by a lot, so if ur happy to move to NYC...
