Will Google follow Meta’s footsteps for mass layoffs? TC 215 #google #meta
Everyone at google lives like a Metamate PM so most likely yes
If the economy was as good as 2 years back :-( all these layoffs would not have happened
The grad + support check-in stuff just implemented so the layoff might not happen very soon, but from the broad economy perspective, i dont understand what Google leadership is waiting for? layoff is a good decision given the situation. For employees, just make sure to give great severance package.
Google is not going to have engineering layoffs. We are still hiring, albeit at a slower pace. Blind is secretly hoping that Google lays off people so everyone can feel better about getting rejected, but it ain't gonna happen. Stop with the FUD.
When will L6 and L7 hiring open up you think ?
This is just not true lol, all I can say is go watch the last all hands and listen to who sundar calls out specifically as having redundancy issues. Hint it’s not the finance people.
Not as structurally messed up as Meta (metaverse… lol), but they did massively overhire during Covid era and will probably cut after the new year
Possibly if their other ways of downsizing don’t work (eg GRAD and PIPs, hiring freeze, etc). Seems like they’re trying to downsize more gradually vs doing bulk layoffs
Google is likely to reduce work force eventually for the same reason: a rapidly slowing economy and excess hiring.
