Sad to hear about layoffs at Netflix. Curious to know which product area/roles were affected. Also feel free to reach out for referral if any tech roles got laid off. Wondering if this can happen in other companies like Roku? Or is their business model different than Netflix Tc 330k
I tried to find who was affected this time, and this is all I could find: "We’re hearing that the legal and product divisions have been hit by this latest wave of redundancies." source: https://deadline.com/2022/06/netflix-axes-another-300-staff-taking-total-layoffs-to-around-450-1235050799/
Product, customer service, legal, engineering etc - multiple biz functions. No mercy. No advance notice. Truly squid games style
Just lay off the entire content creation team - no content will be an improvement over the garbage they produce
I think it's kind of the opposite, they need a stronger content creation team so they have content worth subscribing for. Sub-contracting bad shows or cancelling good, but "not enough eyeballs in x days" shows doesn't seem to be working.
Yes, I meant fire and rebuild the content team from scratch. Subcontracting the shows could be fine as well as long as you retain enough control of the script and other important decisions.
Netflix iOS and Android engineers, DM me for referral. Fully remote OK!
If you are looking for remote positions, DM me. We are hiring both Frontend and regular SDE roles.
Can I also share my resume, i'm laid off by Coinbase
from one pip to another
We’re safer, all the steaming apps have to use us 😂 people use less Netflix and more HBO? No probs. Recession coming, average HHI is $60K, think they’re gonna buy $100 Apple TV or a discounted $40 Roku? We got $2B cash on hand according to financial filings.
Ex-coworker there in original series marketing was cut today at the Hollywood office and so was her boss. They are consolidating a lot of exec roles to oversee multiple functions instead of a dedicated one.
Any cuts in editorial marketing or social media?
What happened at Netflix has nothing to do with the larger macroeconomic environment. Content subscription has too many players from Disney and Hulu to Peacock and HBO.
Disney surprisingly has a lot of classic contents. Very delighted and spent a few months of subscription last year. Probably will do that too next year.
What's your view on Lyft and layoffs?
I really wish Netflix bought more rights of classic movies. They are way better than any modern content they pushed out recently. I chose Disney simply because it has more classic shows/movies.
Yeah but with classic movies how would the purple haired staff at Netflix be able to push their woke garbage on you and your kids?
I prefer new content, hoping netflix is washing out the purple haired people and focusing on making actually good content going forward
Does roku have content? Netflix is more like a the actual producer/publisher. Roku is like a platform to get those publisher contents to the consumer via TV. Honestly not sure what the appeal of roku is despite being on every tv. I could be missing it but imo roku is overhyped so far, but ive also heard other people love their roku on their tv. 🤷♂️
> despite it being on every tv That’s extremely powerful. Think about the possibilities
Oh and we do have some content as well
