Layoffs happening but h1bs are ok

All of my friends in faang working on h1b are safe. No one lost their job. They were mostly sde’s, product managers or data scientists. I am just wondering if they targetted US citizens as they tend to earn more than h1b counterparts. Is it because folks on h1b are generally more hard working and less demanding on salary hikes and promotions? TC: 🥜 YOE: 7 #faang #swe #tech #amazon #microsoft #aws #google #meta #h1b

Doubt that. Your friends are just lucky. I have several h1b friends who have lost their FAANG jobs and some of whom are considering moving back to India because they're close to their 60 days.

Same. Many of them were only at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Oh well. Temp workers and they knew the gig before signing upm

Anecdotal id say. Many of my friends on h1b were impacted at FAANG and otherwise in the last 12 months

Google biih Jan 29

All of my friends are US citizens and none of them lost their jobs but only visa holders around me were impacted

It’s more like 90%

You’re delusional about H1B folks earning less salary . Laws are already in place to revoke H1B and its extension if salary is below sub par. Moreover faang jobs are much higher pay compared to any other

Attentive tristate69 Jan 30

They earn less per hours worked because managers work them more knowing that h1b can be abused like a slave

H1Bs tend to be more agreeable and say yes to superior’s demand even if they are unreasonable. Citizens are more confident about their standing here and more likely to stand up to their bosses. Who do you think bosses will cut when the going gets tough.

H1Bs tend to work more on tech side. Whereas many layoffs in the tech companies have impacted only the non tech roles

Amazon gabbaganda Jan 29

Anecdotally, but I see mostly higher paid roles are impacted regardless of their visa status. However, I saw open debates to rather target non-H1B workers.

Filthy observation.
