I'm currently a Product Marketing Manager but I'm trying to switch to being a Product Manager. I've been talking to my pm on how to make the switch and he said I have great product sense but need to work on learning more on how the tech actually works to better communicate with engineers (I have a non technical education). Any suggestions on resources to learn how to better understand tech would be greatly appreciated. I am not looking to learn to actually code but to just have better high level techical intuition.
Apple’s WWDC videos provide some good high-level information.
Which ones?
There’s a book called swipe to unlock that helped me land my current PM job at a YC startup without a CS background. I also was a tech pmm before switching to pm. The book essentially breaks down how key tech concepts like APIs and ML actually work. It’s written by a google pm. Def worth checking out imo
This book looks like exactly what I'm looking for! Just ordered it on Amazon. Thanks so much
How does it compare to cracking the pm interview?
Helpful insight, thanks!
If you have a LinkedIn Learning account, there is a course (~1.5 hrs) on “technology for product managers”. Super high level by a good primer
If by tech you mean IT then pluralsight is a good source. They have courses for all skill levels. You can pick the courses based on what your team is working on.
