I joined Amazon from another FAANG (don't want to dox myself). I joined mainly to try something new and I was legitimately curious about Amazon's scale, but only ended up working there for less than six months. I can attest the majority of Blind posts are correct. Amazon is really a bad company for a huge number of reasons that I won't get into. I'm leaving for another "top tier" type company, that people from my previous company do go to occasionally. Should I keep Amazon on my resume even though it was for < 6 months? To be honest, I'm kind of embarrassed to be associated with Amazon after my bad experience, and the fact that no one seems to go to Amazon from my previous company since it's a step down in comp/benefits/engineering (I now see why). If I leave it off, do I need to justify the gap on my resume, won't that look weird as well, like perhaps I was PIP'd rather than leaving voluntarily from my last company?
Keep it on. Unless you have a string of 6 month situations nobody cares.
TC and YOE?
I suppose I'm obligated! ~3Y ~320TC
Which is this "top tier" type company that you are going to ?
You are overthinking. Just keep on your resume.
Yeah leave it on, and when applying in the future just have a nice answer about it when asked
Hiring manager here. Unless you have a long string of multiple 6 month stints, no one is going to care.
I can confirm this. I have 2 short stints, I get asked about it maybe once every 3 interviews and has never been an issue. Beyond that I don't know if this is a genuine question or a troll on Amazon, too embarrassed to put Amazon on your resume? π
Haha my intent was not to troll. Maybe it's just my experience, but I felt so sheepish moving from FB/G to Amazon. I didn't negotiate well so didn't get much of a comp bump (honestly my bad I was really chill about leaving), and I realized Amazon's refresher/promo policy wouldn't make up for that at all. Plus in my opinion the tech stack and focus on engineering empowerment is way worse. So from my perspective people only should go from FB/G if they get an extremely high pay raise or promo to go to Amazon and I know from experience Amazon probably can't exceed the comp or level so most shouldn't go, and almost no one does. That's what makes me sheepish / embarrassed to put it on my resume! *This is ignoring other factors like company mission, products, specific team, location, which might be better for others at Amazon. I might be over generalizing :) Also I guess part of me gets tired trying to justify why I went to Amazon in the first place! Lots of people always ask me why I would make the move?
I think if it's to another FAANG then you can probably leave it out (since you already have big names on your resume). If you just wanted to impress a smaller company, I would keep it on there, they would just be great to have your presence LOL. I think I would leave it on, it means you were hired there none the less, just wasn't a good fit. Either way, you can probably explain why you left Amazon early long as you can create some sort of a positive story out of it.

Sorry for bashing, I feel really bad. I will say most of the engineers I met were really smart, and nice! But I had big problems with the tech stack, compensation, and culture not individuals or talent themselves. Also this is just my personal experience / biased opinion.
π you havent been to a real shit company yet. You are a blessed kid
