Leave Cisco to join startup?
I’m like 99% sold, just wanted to get my blind brothers opinion and get shit on for low TC. Grade 6 at Cisco, TC 85k, based in RTP, NC. Offer to join pre series A startup as employee #20, TC around 105k + equity. Still based in RTP.
That’s a pretty small TC bump for a jump 😕

If u r not on visa, do it
Pros: Early employee at a startup You are young and no family commitments I presume, so can put in extra effort Startup experience is valued by FAANG Higher TC than current. Equity could potentially make u very rich Cisco is no longer what it was some years back Cons If on visa, then u need to be careful Might lose out on unvested rsu Wlb could be an issue I personally would take the startup offer. Upside is way higher than downside
It depends on what you want out of life, right? Job stability or rapid growth. There's no same answer for everyone. The TC being better is also a clear indication which way to go.
I’m pretty early in career, only 2 years. Seems like a decent time to take on some risk and challenge myself.
