I am currently a level 60 with 2 years of experience at Microsoft. I may receive a position at Instacart as a L3 (entry level). I was hoping to achieve an L4, since one of my the reasons I was thinking of leaving Microsoft was that promos are slow in my org. Is this lateral move is a good idea? Haven’t received an offer yet because I have to get a team match but the recruiter told me I passed the final round. Current TC: 125k base, 120k sign on over four years (without appreciation), 20% for bonus
I hate the leveling at Microsoft, I would aim for level 69 and retire.
You got zero stock at Microsoft? What the fuck
120 looks like stock. Probably already got full signing bonus
If other late stage startups, yea leave MS. But instacart? Amazon can pay much more without clawback if you get sde2 and competing offers.
I’d suggest leave Ms whenever u can
Leave MS, but not for instacart
Yes getting a level jump by switching companies is a good move
Apply to a few places to get better offers. This your first one out the gate?
Yes it is! Still waiting to hear back from another company
You’d put yourself at a disadvantage if you are in a rush. There is leverage that comes with being at a good job already. They have to poach you, and you can afford to be selective.
I’d advise against a lateral move this early on
