Considering a few offers from a few HFT/hedge fund firms (citadel, de Shaw, two sigma). Given today’s economic climate, it seems to be thought that successful funds are the most recession proof businesses. Is this to be true? In 2008, a lot of financial institutions busted. My offers are around 1.5-1.75x my current TC all cash, but don’t want to be laid off in the midst of tech hiring freezes. Any insights would be appreciated! TC: 315
SDEs are just minions in HFT.
My role is quant dev. Front office working on a specific asset class, and directly with researchers. Could you elaborate on what you mean by minions?
Minions - small cute creatures led by Gru 😂
Your chances of being let go is equally high.
Citadel was about to go out of business during 2008. Theyve been doing great past 3 years but no guarantees for the next 2. And you will be the first to be out the door after the traders with bad pnl.
HFTs are also more likely to be impacted by the stock market during a recession since it’s what they do
Just buy puts?
Just buy puts 🥲
Fuck Meta
Haha, how’s TS?
🤗🐐🐐
Also read about the deferred comp at these companies. You dont get all the money cash
This was a surprise to me after they kept advertising themselves as “all-cash offers” but even still, ~25% TC deferred is a whole different ballpark than 50%+ vesting RSUs
At TS 20% of your bonus is put into a fund. The money is fully vested immediately, but enjoys returns for 4 years and is then paid out. If you leave early, the original cash is still yours and so are the returns as of the end of the previous year. It’s a pretty reasonable arrangement and the returns are nice. Plenty of folks would defer more if they could.
How can your TC be so low at Meta? Snap collapsed like a supernova but my TC is still >500k.
He probably only have 3 yoe.
Yeah e5, 3 yoe. Joined as new grad. Internal growth at meta is always less TC than external offers
D. E. Shaw is in good shape. That's all I can say. :P
How is the comp for swes?
Yes how is the comp for SWEs?
It matters more than it should, you’d need to elaborate on mediocre grades + have justification for them
Not sure, no one really asked about gpa other than citadel on a form. However I do have magna cum laude on my resume
If you are gc or citizen why not

Was thinking the same, did not really want to be in a situation looking for a job but you know you do you
