Leaving FB for Twitter in this economic environment... Crazy?

My current role at FB is safe and my TC is above average but the team I am in has a negative environment (politics, empire building, overzealous competition, etc). I am in the late stage of interviews with TWTR where it is known the exec in this space is on mission rather than on politics. I'm expecting a slight paycut but figure my sanity is part of comp as well. However I'm not clear how well they are positioned to weather a deep recession. Any news on their health? #layoff #twitter

And yoe

We have a decent amount of cash on hand so we should be able to weather the economic downturn just fine.

Also, ad revenue will go down for however long the recession lasts, but digital dollars will be less impacted. People are spending no time outside, and lots more time online. Twitter is actually profitable. On top of having a huge cash pile, it's also an election year. They're very well positioned. I think FB is clearly safer. But Twitter seems very safe, too.

Digital ad spend will be most impacted. Not digital ad spend have contracts

It entirely depends on your level. Lower levels are OK but if you're at a higher level it's risky.

Amazon zVjh74 Apr 2, 2020

Go for it. FB is a a slowly sinking ship due to internal chaos, loss of customer trust, increasing competition from Amazon and tone deaf clueless leadership. Solid move to leave!

Elaborate on "competition from Amazon" and how is it more relevant than other common downsides about FB??

Facebook easzss Apr 2, 2020

Feel free to ignore him, he's bitter at amazon and trolls FB all day. https://www.google.com/search?q=zVjh74+FB very sad look

I wouldn't recommend it in this environment. Twitter pulled all future Q1 guidance and is being pressured by a hedgefund. They've had major layoffs before.

The hedgefund issue is resolved and the Q1 guidance was also pilled by all ads companies including FB. FB projected drop in revenue if things get really bad (Q3 unemployment at 20%+ is projected).

Google GfTq22 Apr 15, 2020

It was not “resolved.” Dorsey and TWTR got a stay of execution. Note that they had to give up board seats to the hedge fund. What do you think they are going to do with those board seats, if Dorsey doesn’t figure out how to make real money?

Microsoft Cor0naCrat Apr 2, 2020

Not crazy. Just dumb. Twitter is a company going downhill. Hard to survive as a company when your biggest fan base doesn't believe in paying for $&@! let alone allowing free speech.

Twitter?? You sure ?? Man

Google babyparty Apr 3, 2020

Yes crazy stupid

Verizon tuckfrump Apr 4, 2020

I understand your concern because I’m in a toxic environment too. I’ll only say to never make a decision when you’re down and desperate to get out. You’re in a great company and have the flexibility to change teams or negotiate a better offer even if you want to get out. Don’t sell yourself short.

You will have a TC cut if that is ok
