Hi Blind community Asking on behalf of a friend: He is currently working at Google India as a software engineer with 2 yoe and wants to pursue MBA. Following are the doubts: 1. Should he leave google for doing MBA, is it worth it? 2. How are the salaries for MBA graduate? 3. Is there any way google helps in sponsoring his MBA? As a friend, even I am not sure about this questions, so thought of asking here. Please help!! #google #faang #software #mba #facebook
No
Depends on why he wants an MBA. In most cases it doesn’t make financial sense to give up 2years of a FAANG job salary + debt to get an MBA.
Not from India, but from US perspective MBA from Harvard, Wharton , Stanford, or high tier Universities are the only ones that matter. MBA from others is usually disregarded especially in tech.
Does pursuing an executive MBA in Stanford etc while being L4 or L5 SWE at Google help in ones career.
Like I said which MBA. It doesn’t if you are gonna stay in SWE ladders.
If you are thinking about it and it excites you, go for it.
It depends on what future jobs you want. If you want to move into engineering management at some point, want to become a PM or start your own thing, an MBA is a good choice. An MBA is also not needed for all these things but gives you the right network. Note that most top MBA schools prefer people with at least 5 years of experience, but is not the norm. It just increases you chance at getting in and being successful after. I’d personally recommend saving up for a few more years before deciding.
It depends on your career goals. If you're looking to move into a VP/product manager/other management role or start your own company, then yes. Just don't go into large debt if you can avoid it because it's expensive. I saved some money for a couple of years for my MBA so I didn't need any loans. Some companies may provide some tuition assistance but it's usually capped (in the US) at around $5200 a year which isn't much for an MBA program. As for salaries it depends on where you end up. You can make more in consulting companies or a promotion because of the MBA.
Depends on his career goals. Leaving google is not a big price though.
What do you mean not a big price?
