Leaving Microsoft by lowering salary

Joined almost 2 years ago as L62. I am leaving MSFT for a lower salary just because of the coldness of the people. My team is literally dead, they are just doing their work like robots. No activities, no life. Work is the majority time of my life and i cant stand being forced to be a robot. I was a cheerful man, i was excited and being with these people also turned me into them. Besides, the projects are not satisfying. I hate that everything is windows based. I run .net libraries in node js because this. WTF WOULD DO IT. Good parts are also exists, i feel safe here, good salary, life and work balance and the managers are so good. They are wise and inspirational. They suggested me to change team, this confused me because i think other teams are also similar. And the manager says joining MSFT is not easy, i would look for all opportunities inside before leave. However i feel like i can come back 5-10 years later again if i want to. New job is in a startup company as a Senior role. I experienced startup before, so i know it will be tiring but fun. What do you think? I need to decide until tomorrow. UPDATE: I signed contract with the new company and I was in the office, people are amazing and dynamic! I loved them all, I am so excited 🎊 #software #engineering #microsoft #leaving

Your manager is right. Getting back into big tech is not easy. Lots of prep involved to even have a chance of getting back in. And there is a large amount of luck getting back in to big tech too….the skill set is the bare minimum and the bare minimum is even hard to meet these days. Got harder over the years.

Have 6 month liquid cash backup, no regrets mentality, can do attitude, and follow your heart. Have career freedom. In my past, I have left before 80k vest/1 yr cliff to be startup no. 5, I also left Google with half the comp to join another startup. I am 40 now, always been single income of four, no regrets. Each job shapes who I am today. Good luck and remember to have fun.

At the end it doesn't matter which company you worked for, it matter if you liked working there or not. Life is short, work where you like and tech stack. Why to being depressed working were you don't like Go for the other company and Microsoft work is so pathetic that my few friends already left it for dynamic work

Did you ever consider Azure if you want to code in Typescript and C#? My wife is in that organization and it always seems like they need more people. It's stressful and work life balance can seem bad, but the work seems interesting. It's also a big growth area for Microsoft so you would have opportunities for promotions and raises.

I am already in Azure and using typescript in a terrible way πŸ₯²

I look at some of the optimizations suggested to my wife and I feel like it makes the code unreadable. I can understand if it makes the code run faster or use less memory, but why do so many optimizations that makes the code smaller and less readable? I never understood that, but I'm not an expert as I code in Ada all day.
