I am a Walmart eCommerce employee on a high growth team in San Bruno and generally enjoy my work. My boss is very good and I am considered "exceeds expectations" despite not working hard for me. We get unlimited PTO, work from home upto 100% of the time and have nice bonuses. I was recently given an offer for Amazon in Seattle that is a small amount over what I make now TC before negotiations, but I am not that motivated by money and I am due for a promotion that would put me over amazon TC. I have concerns that I am going from a very easy job in a high growth environment to something unnecessarily stressful in maybe an inferior location to the Bay Area. I also don't take a lot of vacations, but I wonder how hard it is to actually take time off at Amazon since I know I will want to visit friends or take time away. Meanwhile my boss forces me to take more time off to relax or take half days whenever I want. FWIW I do not have a partner or kids, but do have a dog and a nice social life that both keep me sane. I may not be able to visit Seattle soon due to travel restrictions. Can folks comment on comparing these two companies, living in Seattle and tips on easing the transition to Seattle if I decide to move. Open to any other thoughts and advice too.

Why Worshipping Lord Ram Important in Hinduism?
Yes. Don’t join amazon. Make good money, enjoy a work life balance, travel.
Not worth the change
If you are growing and happy - why leave a good place just for a name. If you got through the door at Amazon you can do it again later or any other FAANG
How long have you been at Walmart? Do you feel your growth is plateauing?
I've been at Walmart for 2 years. I haven't exactly plateaued, but things move very slowly and I feel like I could be doing more. It could take 6 months or longer to get into a new role where WLB could be different. My biggest draw for Amazon is the chance to live somewhere new (even though selling my house in the Bay will be a hassle) and work at a faster pace on potentially more interesting things.
Your ability to move locations will diminish as your family & societal obligations increase. Personally 2 years seems long enough to become an expert at what you do. My suggestion is to go challenge yourself at Amazon and grow your skills.
Don't come. Get promoted. Enjoy life. Not worth it.
Your WLB you described is not even possible at AWS. For 20k I wouldn’t even think of throwing it away
Not worth it for 20k
Come here... get piped in a year .. Go back to Walmart again.. Thats what happen to 90% microsoft guys..
What I wanna know is how do you have easy job in high growth environment? Are you not carrying your load of work? It seems very unlikely that you will do good at Amazon because whatever the case maybe Amazon has in-large high growth environment & they will make you work for it. I would say stay put.
Thank you for the vote of confidence, but it is actually quite the opposite and why I even considered Amazon. I am doing about 4x the work of my counterpart and everything I work on far exceeds even lofty growth goals. I am bored. Fix your grammar and your attitude, champ.
What’s the culture like at Walmart? Are you bored/fed up because you’re one of the few doing 4x the work? If so you’ll at least enjoy amazon because most will be at sufficiently carrying their own load if not more but you may miss the laid back culture. Amazon’s culture is also a little less personal or social and is all about the work all the time. Most people come to amazon as a steppingstone to other FAANG’s so if that’s not your end goal (which is fine) you may find a better overall environment with a late startup or smaller tech company.
Both are shit places in different ways but amazon will look better on the cv
Well said
