I usually rank in leetcode contest is 500-1000. My ask here is, are you guys able to solve questions which you havent seen before? (like not even pattern matching) Most questions I can solve are just the ones which I have known the pattern/algo/similar concept before. Wondering how to improve on that? #leetcode
Within 500-1000 ranking means you mostly solved all 4 problems. You should be fine.
Yeah but im not sure if i am faced with a different type of question (which i have never seen before) will i be able to solve it or what
Can you give me an example question. I believe you probably know the problem type but is unable to relate it to the type from the problem.
Wait are you saying in an individual contest you get between rank 500-1000, or your overall ranking worldwide is 500-1000? Because I pretty consistently get in top 100 in weekly contests but not high rank overall and didn’t pass any faang interviews last year (interviewed at 3 of them)
Individual contest
Ah yeah keep practicing but nonetheless you’re at Microsoft already so you’ll surely get interviews just gotta play the leetcode game :)
I couldn’t solve more than 2 problems per contest and I have worked at multiple FAANGs till date. In other words, there is no correlation between your LC contest rank/overall rank and cracking FAANG interviews.
Congrats! Any advice on cracking the interviews if leetcode doesn’t help ;( I think one big difference is in contests you can be in absolute silence and truly think about the problem even close your eyes if you must, while in interviews you have to think aloud which to me is really hard to talk and think at the same time on a challenging problem
I am similar, though only Fb and goog and now Linkedin. I am female early 30s. Though fairly attractive i guess (large breasts anyway) . I always treated the interviews as fairly casual and tried not to stress . Be yourself try not to get nervous, be friendly and mostly a human. Some places value people as much as a robot churning out code. Maybe I am lucky, maybe it’s my tits, who knows...
What's your LC breakdown?
keep practicing 🤷♂️
Did you even read? My rank is 500-1000 (which means I am able to solve most questions but not new types) Do you mean 500-1000 is average n needs to be better? I feel like I lack creative problem solving
There are never truly new problem types in LC. After enough practice, every new problem you encounter can be reduced/transformed into the pattern of a previous problem. A big part of contest rank (and interview success) is being able to solve problems quickly, and repeated practice is the best way I’ve found to improve pattern-recognition and problem-solving speed. I don’t feel that creativity is too important here.
