Just wrapped up interview loop with 4 FAANG/FAANG competetive (TC-wise) companies for data engineering roles. Not a single leetcode-style DSA problem. Glad they are finally interviewing for skills we use on the job. There were certainly challenging technical rounds, but they were more oriented around parsing some records of data, transforming, then producing output. SQL also ofc Apple, Reddit, Robinhood, Jane Street. Some of these places have team-specific interview loops, so of course can't speak for everyone's experience. Maybe I just got lucky Current TC: 200 New TC: 450 (won't say which for anonymity)
Which level are you interviewing for ?
Considering that I’m thinking about breaking into DE (and SWE to an extent), hearing that Leetcode is being abandoned or deprecated in favor of more traditional methods doesn’t really sit well me considering the amount of money I’ve invested in Leetcode prep. In any case, congratulations on the new TC, OP. TC: $44/hr
Sorry to hear BUT All that Leetcode shit is completely awful. I’ve hired far too many folks that aced their DSA interviews and sucked hard in the eventual role.
Here’s me having never leet coded in my life with a pretty good 400k TC. How? I just work hard and have a nack for system design
YOE?
Bruh we know the only one with that new TC is Jane Street. Congratulations on getting this offer.
Jane street hires from squarespace now? Maybe I should apply
It's a NYC tech scene thing. Lots of NYC mid and small sized companies have connections - NYC non-FAANG tech scene is very small and closely knit that way. Jane Street would hire from Bloomberg or Etsy but perhaps not from Amazon or even Meta/Google. The supply from FANG is really high and we lack the skills needed for companies like Jane Street. Plus let's accept it - Jane Street is a quant firm and would prefer to hire people with quant background, and FANG doesn't even come close to that. We are of no use to them. It is the only company that sends me a resume reject within 1 hour even on weekends (so it's an auto reject) so either some keyword they're looking for isn't on my resume or something on there is a big red flag for them.
DE’s don’t even need to know how to code
No, that’s not true
DE can mean many things. But i am not sure Drag and drop with talend counts
Yoe? Level?
8, senior
Jane Street has a Data Engineer title? I thought only engineering titles were Software Engineer and Production Engineer.
