My husband and I are both working parents taking care of an ~1 year old and a busy job. Between cooking and taking care of the child it’s hard to set some time for Leetcode for either of us. I have a staycation coming up in a week and will get the process started as I’ll finally have some time. My question to anyone who has leetcoded with a young child, how did you find time on a regular basis.
First you(or husband) do leetcode then after getting job, your husband (or you) can do leetcode.
Why wait for one to get a job before the second start? Why can't they do together and mock each other?
If you commute, you can use the time to go through blind 75 and DDIA on your phone/laptop. Come back home and implement the problems you ve seen for the day. Coding for mediums shouldn’t be more tha 15 min, it’s the thinking through that takes time
What’s blind 75?
I’m currently forcing myself to go to sleep early to be able to wake up an hour or more before the kids. Then just do a one or two LCs every day. This also gives a time limit which helps in determining how fast you are, how many you can solve.
I feel this situation so hard right now! Like someone has already suggested, do it one parent at a time. One parent takes up a majority of the child care while the other leet codes. Spend a few weeks leet coding and things start to click, at which point start setting up interviews and do a whole bunch of them back to back. Imo, that's the most efficient way to go. Interviewing at one company at a time will guarantee that the process gets stretched out, unless you do well with the first company you interview with.
Also, I've found that doing the blind 75, one topic at a time really helped set the neural pathways for each of those problem types
Joining FB next month. Managed to LC every day with a 2 yo boy during the holidays and his kindergarten summer vacation, it was a nightmare but managed to study after he went to sleep. 8-10 and sometimes during work
Do it early in the morning from 6am to 9am and then work from 9 to 6, spend time with kids, do chores and then sleep by 10pm.
I see a lot of comments in this post by people who don’t have kids. Leetcoding with young kids is a whole other level
Damn, children these days are starting leetcoding young. No advice but make sure your child can do the Blind 75 in a few years.
Is Bloomberg that busy? Genuine question. Interested in joining but like you, I have kids so I don’t want to get too busy. Like some have suggested and I’ve been doing: after the morning chores for the kids, LC from 8:30 to 9 or so. Should take 15-25min to solve a problem. If I can’t finish I’ll continue in the afternoon or the next morning. Don’t try to squeeze it in, context switching will just stress you out and can’t get anything done properly. Good luck!
No, wlb balance is great here. Would highly recommend if your looking for a rest and enjoy time with your family company.
It depends a lot on the team. Some teams spend hours on jira rituals leaving little time for actual work. My productivity decreased thanks to multiple meetings and time spent working increased since my team started doing this.
I know it probably feels like you don’t have the time, but it’s there. One year olds are a PITA, I know. You can find 15-30 minutes each night to try a problem. If you don’t finish it, that’s fine, pick it up again the next night. Make the time to leetcode a little bit each night, but remember to be patient with yourself.
yeah even if you have all the time, unless you are a learning pro, it will take weeks
