I worked in Bank of America previously TC 150. I was there for 2 months and my manager made my life miserable. I got calls on my personal phone if my status was away even for 5 mins. I was harassed to the point of asking why exactly I have a doctor's appointment and I need to work extra to compensate for my lunch time. Also I was told straight to my face that I need to ramp up learning everything in half a week as I am on visa and I don't have the luxury of leaving the job. ( Yeah my manager was on visa too and took on multiple projects and pushed all his frustrations on his team) . I was given no KT and project barely had a single markdown to read. I was supposed to work on my project to be delivered ASAP. Micromanagement at it's worst. ( Honest to God, all this is true word by word and I leaving a lot out trying not to make it into an essay ) I started interviewing 2 weeks into the job and I joined my new company and even if my TC is lower 130 I enjoy my life much more now. Deadlines are not imposed on me and I was given ample time to learn my new project and I am learning a lot more here. Not looking for any new job or higher TC. Just wanted to share my experience. Quality of life is much more important than TC. Live long and prosper. Peace. YOE 6
Congratulations you successfully escaped the hell !!
Thank you
Thanks for sharing this. I’m happy you are in a better spot now
Thank you.
I am sorry to hear that buddy. I feel you, by the way was he/she a desi manager and came from a South Asian consulting company like Wipro, infosys??
Thank you. Yes and yes.
Dam I knew it!! Only Desi Indian companies can produce such an Ahole!! I have spent almost 9 years with Wipro and Capgemini and this all sounds so familiar!! I am happy you are out of shithole
Wow what the fuck! I’m glad that you left that job
WLB is very important! TC is important too but not above mental health!
Never get bullied. What stopped you from making his life difficult? Were you reporting to the CEO? If not then he would have had a boss above him or rather a chain of bosses above him. Why did you not talk to them? You can’t keep running away. A manager gets a bigger dent in his performance review if any of his team member goes and complains about him. You should have used that power. If the entire chain of management was with your boss and not with you, then it could be that the problem lied with you. You should introspect in that case. But again never give this privilege to anyone to enter your mind and make you unhappy - come what may.
It doesn't work like that buddy, I Have been in such situations. His boss doesn't need to have support from the chain of leadership, he just need to be good with his boss And his boss will take care of rest of the chain. Usually this kind of managers have very good reputation with their boss because they can get things done much faster by making the developers life hell so most of the time the The leader ship is happy that the things are getting delivered and don't pay much attention toward a developer issue. This is how the Indian consulting companies work and people who move from these companies to other companies still follow the same work culture
This is what happens when the whole chain is a bunch of aholes. That manager was highly regarded I guess as he was given more projects even by the time I was leaving. Everyone in my team was from Infosys/wipro background on visa which was kinda irregular except for one and their voice literally trembled at his presence. It's just this culture of weird patriarchy in that team and I guess not being groomed in Indian service industry made me different than the rest and I could not survive. I'm sure someone here might feel that is normal but not for me. I'd much rather take a lesser TC and leave and not fight that set culture of literal harassment. I'm so much more at peace now and grateful for my new opportunity.
Toxic witch people ruining everything!
You should have reported to HR. This is harassment.
Hey! May I know if you're SWE at BofA and which team?
Damn... I wish we could rate managers same way they rate us. I have a long list of areas of improvement
