1st offer Mountain view Base 140k Requesting to sign offer by this week. Manual testing and partial automation 2nd offer Dallas Base 100k but living cost is 1/4th of SV Full automation so I will be able to learn Verbal offer made but written offer will not be ready till next week. I feel SV will offer more learning experience and meet entrepreneurs, etc.. however Toyota HQ has very attractive work culture/WLB and way cheaper living cost in Dallas. Fanng does look better on resume but I also want to learn in depth automation scripting at Toyota. Any input would be appreciated
Depends which FAANG
What makes fang is fast stock growth potential. That means fast money making companies. For employees, it is fast high paying companies. If it is not giving you high pay, why called it FANG? And why work for it? You either build your resume with Engineering brands or get paid high or both.
Thanks for your input and i do agree. I didn't put rsu since its embarrassing compared to others on here and Toyota only has cash bonus.
RSU are helpful only if they have a potential to grow by a significant dollars ($50+ gain Year on Year). Otherwise, cash comp is very promising.
You want to look at your overall career trajectory, your happiness, quality of life, etc. rather than fixating too much on first-year comp (and fudgible cost of living numbers). Maybe Dallas is better for you, but you should consider where you'll be after 5 years in both places...
Thanks for your input. I believe being in SV will improve my career path and being surrounded by intelligent people would also motivate myself to learn more/harder
I've been at G for 4+ years and career moves extremely slowly. Not that I am lazy. I routinely work over weekends and at night actually. It's just that the systems are too mature to make large enough improvement anymore.
Thanks for your input... I thought G wlb and the culture would surpass Toyota but your feedback just gave me 2nd thought
It really depends on how good you are and how ambitious you are and that will take some reflection. The valley is a great place to really succeed if you really are ambitious and have shown you are in the top 10% of your peers everywhere you've been. Otherwise I'm not sure you'll be more successful in the valley vs anywhere else. Valley is really an elitist culture.
Thanks for your input. Elitists..... Thought I might be finding people who are more helpful than East coast
Think about future job opportunities
Thanks for your input. This is another reason for me to lean towards SV
FAANG will be much better than Dallas Toyota. It's not even a question to me, especially you are young and single. And the culture between SW companies and Japanese car company is just totally different. Not sure why you are considering a Toyota position over MTV.
I dont think that SV life is that special unless you do take specific actions to change it.
Meetups or approach others at a coffee shop or library? Want to learn and network
You can't do meetups every day, and lots of meetups are just time wasted. In the end, what matters is WLB.
