Less publicized perks of working at Google

Google is pretty cheap these days with swag and perks, but there are some (Bay Area) that I think are fairly rare. - $1K employer HSA contribution - Monthly stock vest instead of quarterly - Most on-calls are paid, reasonably generously - Dinner served at many cafes (also the infamous to-go boxes) - Educational stipend (2/3 for work related and 1/3 for non-work related) - Swim pools on some campuses - Cellphone and internet reimbursement - Rental car corporate code (best rate of all places I've worked) - Onsite global entry interview appointments - Personal healthcare concierge - Dogfooding new features in advance (e.g. Bard) - Management fee waived for upto $70K at Wealthfront - Option for deferred compensation to optimize for income tax Curious to hear some lesser known perks at other places. Not HR

10 tears of pay to the family in case of employee death.

Did not know about hsa contribution, thanks for this. What is “Onsite global entry interview appointments”?

Google Gøögle OP Nov 3, 2023

It's for applicants of the US Global Entry program: https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry A rather niche perk but I find it convenient

If you are a US citizen and are eligible go global entry(which includes tsa precheck), normally one would have to go to an actual airport to take the interview in order to get it. I guess this means that instead of going to an airport, you can interview for global entry at a Google campus

Onsite Global Entry Interview? It's like a 3 month wait at ORD.

Google Gøögle OP Nov 3, 2023

We also have it occasionally, but once it's announced it's pretty easy to sign up. I guess it's to help with all the employees who need to travel outside of the US

Is that $1k per employee + $1k for their spouse? I get $500 and another $500 for my wife where I’m at. Seems like a nice perk!

Healthcare premiums for the employee and family completely covered by company. Not at Rivian though. They’re jacking up employee healthcare costs. I’ve also seen company paid pet insurance which was a nice perk.

2.5k student loan match per year. I wish I knew about this. I paid off all my student loans in one lump sum 2 weeks before I got my Google offer. I only found out about this benefit in the onboarding. I felt like an idiot for leaving $ on the table.
