Hello everyone. It’s well-known that Snowflake bases hiring decisions on your current level. In my recent experience, after passing all interviews and receiving positive feedback from hiring managers, HR dismissed me because I inadvertently mentioned my current level, citing company policy. After such a sh$tshow, there’s no chance I'll consider them again, but I’m just curious: Is this practice legal? Could it be grounds for a class action lawsuit? share your experiences. 12yoe, TC 650 #snowflake
“Discriminated against” by your level. Lmao This app is full of idiots
Of course it's legal.
OP you mean you were too senior for the role? I don’t understand you.
of course
Why did you interview for junior level at the first place then?
I think snowflake estimated your tc and realized they don’t have enough budget. This happens all the time nowadays to top tier companies trying to step down. Small companies realize they don’t want to pay as much.
But why step down op - try in same pay league - apple or google ?
Snowflake pays more than Google. Usually companies make the offer and it’s up to you take it or not. Google down-levels you on purpose all the time. I think there was something else that made Snowflake not to give OP the offer.
It’s not discrimination/grounds for a lawsuit if it’s not a protected category.
We don't offer uplevel on hire except in rare instances. We do it for you, then everyone comes asking for it.
how can you uplevel faang with snowflake which is small/medium startup? I talked to some HR folks in Meta - they do not match Snowflake levels, obviously. In that case what does that even mean to uplevel?
Meta, you sound like a crazy trump supporter! Hiring on skills is racist!
What are you even saying? Are you at lower level but you interviewed for higher level at Snowflake and got declined?
Why mention the current level
That's a different issue, but here's what happened: throughout the interview process, they kept probing for my level. After the interviews, when they said everything had gone well and suggested we just chat casually, I inadvertently revealed my level in response to their repeated questioning. This slip came at the end of a long day, when they asked something like, "By the way, you were at level X, how was that?"
How did you respond when you straight up asked for your level? I never quite have the right words when they ask, it feels awkward.
