I'm curious if I can leverage my salary in India while negotiating offers in the US. If so, what would be an appropriate conversion amount for Bay Area? Based on other posts, the PPP adjusted salary in the US seems to be ~3.5x the Indian salary (converted in USD). I'm aware that the offer is going to be based on the interviews and other offers, which will determine the upside. And that top companies might beat my past salary anyway if I make the cut. However, for other companies or possible situations, I want to understand if I can maximize the downside using my past salary + expecting a 30-40% hike. I'm actively looking out for jobs, but also waiting for a potential transfer offer from Samsung. Background - Data Scientist, graduating with a CS master's (top school) TC: 35 LPA YOE: 6 #negotiation Edit: I'm asking about negotiating with other companies using India salary, not with Samsung to get a better transfer offer since negotiating during internal transfer is meaningless.
Not my experience, but from what I know. If you had fantastic interview rounds, and are willing to walk away from your US offer for opportunity in India, recruiters could offer you with your negotiated numbers. Willing to walk away is the key. It comes with risk, because they might not give you that offer and you would have to stick to your words. Only If you are okay to let go of US, you could try this but know the risks.
This definitely seems in line with other negotiation stories on blind. Sounds like it's entirely based on how I position myself in the negotiation, rather than my actual situation, as they don't seem to ask for document/proof of other offers. Whereas it was almost always based on current TC in India.
Your India experience is useless in the US. Very different work ethics and culture.
So, are you saying that Google US would consider Google India experience useless?
Can you negotiate salary in an internal transfer?
Not 3.5, if it's California, with the state taxes the conversion number is around 2.9 now
Nobody will care about your offer outside of US. Even within US they will only care about your offers if they are from same geographic area and similar “tier” companies. Like G for FB etc.
Thanks for the info. Is this based on your experience?
