I'm panicking....fuck. I lied in an interview. I said I was laid off, when I was actually fired for underperforming. I just found out that the person who interviewed me for this startup job is a LinkedIn friend with my ex-coworker from my previous job. I just really wanted this job. And I was afraid that if I told the truth about getting fired, they wouldn't hire me. I'm not 100% sure if my ex-coworker knows that I was fired but now I'm worried that my ex-coworker is going to tell the startup about my real reason for leaving. And if that happens, I'm screwed. If you've been fired wtf do you say in interviews???? AM I NEVER SUPPOSE TO GET A JOBBBB???
Relax ..people hire based on interview feedback. If you did well you will get the job
and if he gets a background check he could get fired again 🤔
Not something background checks are meant to do
Relax - you have no other option than to lie Worst case scenario- you won’t get this one job which you already don’t have. But, if start telling the truth, you will never have a job again Chill
Don't worry about it. Just keep saying you got laid off. I got laid off but I still keep maintaining that I left the job for some reasons X and Y, to avoid getting lowballed offer.
Relax
The person you interview with is different from the HR person who does the employee verification
Yep you're done for. better submit the application to the nearest golden arches if you ever wanna earn another dime
Hey be nice, it can happen to you one day too.
Yes, be very very nice. What is Western D up to doing these days?
Why would any sane person say that they got let go for underperformance. No one would. Don’t panic, chances for your ex-coworker to know that you got let go and those two discussing about it is super low, LinkedIn is so loose with friends that you don’t even speak with majority of your connections on LinkedIn.
Reminder: don't rat on people. I would sit there and tell my skip to fire you for performance, and if some Next employer asked me about you, I'd say "Oh yeah I worked with them - no idea what happened" Let the corporations take the hit- the people matter more.
Doesn't work at Amazon as people r the ones backstabbing each other for empire building
did they actually let you go with cause, or without cause? cuz oftentimes they opt to "lay you off" when you're underperforming, because it makes it harder for you to sue them afterwards. if they fire you for underperforming, you can come back and say that they were discriminating against you. an easy way to tell is if you got severance of some kind. if you did, odds are you were laid off, and let go without cause. And before anyone says anything, even in at-will states, there's a difference between being let go with cause and without cause and no, they can't fire you for just any reason. It's the biggest load of bullshit that people keep spreading, and it's entirely untrue.
Was the previous job at a startup too? If so, it's pretty understandable as they are pretty unstable (especially now) and people can be let go for any number of reasons. However, if they ARE both startups they are more likely to back channel about you if there is any connection (I know some startup leaders love to do this, others not so much).
What are the odds of you panicking and lied. And the interviewer is a friend of your excoworker But yeah, I don't think the scrutiny will be at your coworker level
Well, LinkedIn friend, there's no such thing. People send connections on LinkedIn to random people to increase network.
