Like it or not Amazon is still a top place to work.

Despite all the criticism top developers still flock to Amazon it seems. Maybe due to the brand name and future doors it opens. Or maybe it still pays among the best. And it is still very hard to get into. 1 LC medium + several deep dive lp questions in just an hour? System design? OOD? All while half the interviewers are looking down on you? Most developers in the world couldn't handle that.

Nice try Jeff Bezos

Agreed. I am leaving soon but will come back if culture improves slightly. The only thing I don't like is teammates fighting each other for survival. Apart from that I've learnt a lot here. Half the interviewers looking down on you -> that is the major difficulty. I feel like our interviews are structured in a way that if you say 1 sentence against LPs, you are out. We need to understand that different companies work differently and interviewees embraced the culture there, which led to their experiences not in alignment with all LPs.

As long as they utilize things like Bar Raisers to treat people like garbage to 'weed put the weak', pay less then all the big players, and PIP anyone that breathes wrong, they will stay second rate regardless of size.

GEOTAB Zack19 OP Sep 28, 2021

Is the pay really second rate? Here in Canada not sure anyone pays more that actually is constantly hiring.

Oracle jisq87 Sep 28, 2021

Pay is definitely 2nd rate. FB pays more. So do a lot unicorns like snap, etc. I’m in the US though, so I won’t comment on other countries

Personally I never had a good experience with their interview process. I have a friend who work at Amazon that told me he need to keep drilling deep into a topic until the interviewee could not answer. While this is reasonable, most of the interviewers don’t have deep enough knowledge on the topic, so they ended up asking very detailed things like how do you write out the Taylor expansion of the Xgboost loss function which I think it’s ridiculous. Not to mention they never really care if you join or not. Except that maybe they care about if you will be a better player at politics than him/her so maybe failing you early on is a better play

Not for new grads. All you have to do is an online coding test(questions can be found from one of the leetcode post verbatim) and you’ll receive your “congratulations on the offer” email in 2 weeks

GEOTAB Zack19 OP Sep 28, 2021

Seriously? Damn new grads have it made. ..

Don’t believe them 🙄. There’s a 3x45 after or a 1x30 if you did amazing in the OA

Working for Amazon is like kissing a cousin. Its a kiss. And you can brag about it but you still feel dirty. And it simply does not compare to kissing someone who isn't related to you...

It's hard to get into? Are you kidding?

GEOTAB Zack19 OP Sep 28, 2021

The average dev can't do lc mediums or system design. No chance

Of everywhere I've applied, it was the easiest.
