Just had a Google linguist interview, still waiting for the result but it looks promising. Seems like the title “linguist” is just some historical legacy and the job itself has nothing to do with linguistics, more like a #data #dataanalytics #datascience role. Anyone here working or ever worked as a linguist at Google mind sharing your experience? YOE: 2 TC: 110k
What's the responsibilities of a Google Linguist?
Depends on the team I think. The one I interviewed is more like an data analyst or data engineer role. The interviewer said that it has little to do with linguistics.
Lots of linguists do actual language modelling for assistant and search, so I don't think it's a historical vestige.
The title I interviewed is linguist human evaluation and signals ads, and the interviewer explicitly told me that the job has little to do with linguistics.
Ask recruiter if you can speak to others in similar role. I had that option when I interviewed
