When you compare TCs in levels.fyi it seems as though LinkedIn pays the highest amongst all tech companies - so much so that their pay for any level is comparable to the pay of one level up in other companies! Is this stat more or less true?
My friend works for LinkedIn and he's buying homes now. Fkn 400k for staff level engineer. 😧 I blew up my interview and kicking myself.
$400k for staff is pretty standard for FAANG
Staff is usually $350k based on the people sharing comp at Facebook.
Their initial package is top of the line, but I also heard they're stingy with refreshers (only top 35% or something get it?). Someone from LI care to confirm/deny?
Yes, but we work less ☺️ there’s your trade off
^^ so if you don't negotiate when you join you are doomed wrt TC
Not true.
No of course it’s not true. Getting 400k for staff is actually low.
LinkedIn staff = L5. Are you saying 400k is low for L5?
No, 400K is low for L6. What are some things that prove the staff = L5 assumption? The way I perceive it, LinkedIn senior is L4.5-L5.5 or even L5.75.
IMHO LinkedIn level mapping to L-1 is wrong. I don't know why people think it is a level lower. They pay almost on par with Google/FB for same level.
Most of the time not correct, they cap senior around 300
Wrong, friend joined as senior recently for 310, seen as high as 340
senior in LI is fb/g L4 (1 promotion from new grad), it amazes me how titles can confuse people so much. Take a look at level.fyi and count relative to how many promotions from new grad so you compare 🍎 to 🍎
I used to feel the same way. But one you actually see how difficult it is to get Staff nowadays vs E5/L5 at Google you'll see that LinkedIn Senior band is crazy wide and can easily span into the E5/L5 level. The compensation will also reflect this. I know a bunch of seniors making well into the 300k range, you won't find that many E4 making that much.
^^ So you mean you know seniors making 370-380k ?
LinkedIn is not stupid to overpay by one level, it is just not true that levelLinkedIn == levelElsewhere + 1
It's just MSFT stock appreciation which has doubled in last 2 years. I just got offer from fb e5 and the recruiter told me that she was surprised that their offer wasn't significantly higher than my current TC. But yeah, LinkedIn doesn't give refreshers like fb. So I might make the move.
