LinkedIn Remote work policy a joke! Looking to change ..

as more and more companies endorsing remote work and encouraging folks with flexible working lifestyle, MS/Linkedin also boasted in their All hands etc last year that we will do the same (classic example of lip service) They even further provided region based pay cuts via SharePoint web etc. Provided guidelines how to apply and what are the criteria for consideration etc. I spoke to my manager, discussed in detail - we made sure that we pretty much align with the guideline, and process got initiated It took 3-4 months from management to come up with response as NO. No explanation, no reasoning - utter nonsense and above all when it was asked in All hands why one needs executive level approval - reply from the Dir of HR was - to help and support you better, utter nonsense again! Just wanted to throw this out to fellow members, don't bother or waste time, my manager told me almost everyone got denied with the WFH request (after stage 6 - once pandemic is over). I am looking to change and find employer with more flexibility - what companies i should explore? FB/DropBox? TC - 300K YOE - 5 Yrs #Tech #WFH #linkedin #microsoft #flexibleemployer

Not calling op a slacker or anyone a slacker, but i think we all know that wfh has given birth to some slackers. So lets be optimistic about the numbers, 10%? 10% of the original workforce became slackers. But at first that was ok becuase the hard workers all had lets say a 10% increased performance due to not having to commute and blurring the lines of life and work so balance is preserved. But as people are more comfortable to outdoor activity and the hard workers have caught on with work life balance, companies have now decreased productivity by 10% you cant expect companies to figure out who the slackers are so im expecting companies to go back on their word about flexible wfh. Who wants 10% decrease in productivity, and thats really conservative ;)

Is it critical for your job to be in office? In all companies if you want to switch to WFH from in-office they have to approve it or they already approved it before the job rec was released. I'm not saying it's not frustrating that they made it sound easy when it's not but this isn't out of line with company policies.

Those calling WFH folks slackers, maybe you experienced something in your team but i personally see that me & my wife (who also works for similar IT company) - we are putting 12+ hrs min... Companies are taking advantage, folks are expected to get shit done, reply in prompt etc etc... I say because of WFH and covid mess, folks are extra cautious and delivering more --- in fact, you have more slackers when you go to office - 30 mins coffee breaks, chit-chat with colleagues, lunch break, bio break etc (not saying you dont do that working from home, but its less ) I don't recall ever since WFH started having my lunch properly, i am always on some meeting and in-between i just eat something while on the call - i see my team doing the same .... Anyways - larger point is - Companies making more money out of employee, at some point i feel like extortions :D .. I reached out to couple other companies as they already have pinged me on linkedin and started the interview process. I see more and more companies adopting this trend, those who doesn't will be left behind. writing is on the wall - that's the future.

I cant agree more about your 12+ hours im seeing this with all the performers that i knew when we didnt wfh. Which is why i said it balanced out. What im seeing now though is that the performers are burning out. They're adapting more to limiting hours back to normal work hours and thats when the company as a whole would see decreased productivity. Sorry to hear that your leadership is trying to keep you guys on 12 hours a day.
