LinkedIn brand - Hyped or Reality ?

Is LinkedIn Eng brand hyped alot OR Is it actually at par with Google and FB ? I see LinkedIn getting compared with Google and FB many times on blind and is definitely considered better than MSFT and Salesforce. Why is it ? It's been one year and joined from Amazon and ex MSFT, I think Amazon also had equally good people. I am genuinely looking for reasons what is so special about LinkedIn ? BTW - I loved it here so far because I don't have to work over weekend and employee care is amazing :-)

This is the first time I heard LinkedIn is getting compared with Google or Facebook, gave me a good laugh - Ex-Linked

hmmm, I think you should look out for more posts. I have seen it many times. Do you think Amazon can be compared with FANG. If yes then I think LinkedIn can also be (not sure on blind typical criteria) But I have found equally smart people here.

Amazon kaue May 10, 2019

Do you really know what's FANG or FAANG? Just search Jim Cramer FANG. Amazon was always part of the fang and it was mainly for high growth tech stock.. it has nothing to do with TC or benefits or whatsoever... Stop bringing out FANG..

Total Hype . All great talented engineers left the company way back . Nowhere close to G/ FB/ N . - Ex Linkedin (left 2016)

LinkedIn hahahaa OP May 10, 2019

But, Why this hype ?

PayPal OnnC18 May 10, 2019

Perks , Food and Little extra pay than most of the companies . Engineering problems wise it is far far behind G / FB.

LinkedIn blaziken May 10, 2019

I don't think too many people will claim LinkedIn eng brand is on par with G/FB. That being said LI offers can match or beat those from G/FB ( well, beat G at least, I know they matched FB for a couple of friends but I don't have any anecdotes of them exceeding FB offers), excellent perks & benefits, talented colleagues, good work (team dependent) & good culture. I personally consider LinkedIn a sort of tier 1.5, not quite at the level as FNG, but close.

how do u compare with Amazon, Salesforce and Apple ?

PayPal OnnC18 May 10, 2019

Google is known to give super lowball offers . Linkedin matching it or exceeding means nothing .

I would say only infra and ml has good engineering talent. Rest of linkedin is meh. PayPal guy sounds like bs. Went from linkedin to paypal????

PayPal OnnC18 May 10, 2019

Have you worked at Linkedin ? If not how do you know about the culture without working .

LinkedIn jet la May 10, 2019

I have worked at LinkedIn and Google and I can say for certain that the PayPal guy is a butt hurt and doesn't represent facts. Probably got piped out of LinkedIn

Square ajjsjdjfjc May 10, 2019

It all depends on team/track at LI. App is def shit but infra and data is solid.

LinkedIn ex-fb May 10, 2019

Google and fb (and unicorns like AirBnB) are the most sought after tech companies. Linkedin is probably next and definitely better than other top tech companies like Apple and Amazon. Why? Better perks, WLB and pay. Good hiring bar —close to google/fb— ensures smart colleagues to work with.

Pinterest Jef-VNr May 10, 2019

Doesn’t matter. Most of them go after money. In my opinion, LinkedIn can pay(many at times better) either Google or Fb’s.

I bomeranged back to LinkedIn from fb. LinkedIn has really good culture and wlb is way better than any companies I worked for. Engineering in application is not at par with fb, Google but infra is great. LinkedIn does low ball but MSFT stock has gained a lot in past years which helps

LinkedIn hahahaa OP May 10, 2019

Tips for boomeranged please... Things to note

Why work any pure website company? Do they even have any more engineering businesses that produce different successful products? Seems like the definition of low ceiling. Also heard there's no concept of WFH there. Unless they're going to use AI to automate all the known jobs away based on our freely given data... oh shit maybe they will and it's better to get on board now then.

LinkedIn hahahaa OP May 11, 2019

U seem to know vert less of LinkedIn products, their revenue is not dependent on website (as you called) there are many Enterprise products

Nvidia showeridea May 11, 2019

Yes, most people don't know any verticals for the company. Why is it such a big secret?
