Asking for my girlfriend, " Bloomberg offer, senior software engineer- 220k base + 50 target bonus + 60k sign. First year -330, 2nd year - 270k LinkedIn offer, software engineer- 160k base + 15% bonus + 200k rsu+ 40k sign on+ 10k relo, first year - 284k, 2nd year - 234k I want very chill wlb along with good work. Which company is better in terms of wlb, work, pay and future prospects? I have been very interested in finance in the past and also have taken one of the CFA exams for whoever knows what it is. However I want to do more tech, maybe but fintech also is cool. How long in linkedin to get promoted to senior?" Her Yoe- 3.5 ( 1 year software engineer+ 2 .5 quant finance engineering) My Yoe- 5, TC - 300k #linkedin #bloomberg
LinkedIn >> Bloomberg. Good wlb + Better pay long term
I joined BB a few weeks ago and I’ll be resigning. I’d go with LinkedIn if I was you
Why are you resigning, I joined recently also
Fud lol
At 3.5 yoe there’s no place upwards to go at Bloomberg — there aren’t any levels outside of “senior”, and the lack of change in your tc will likely reflect that. There’s also skyrocketing attrition right now in engineering, which might not be a great time to get in during. Wlb at LinkedIn and Bloomberg is likely similar — though as with any team, your team will likely play a factor. I’d pick LinkedIn based on what you’re looking for.
Yeah agree
LI swe is 10% bonus
Her recruiter told 15 is like average. Do you recommend LinkedIn over Bloomberg ?
Ya 10% on books, company gives u over 15% for company performance
Bloomberg. They are upping their comp Game and your offer clearly shows that
HR?
Are there any teams you know of with better standards?
😂
Def LinkedIn.. GREAT benefits and culture.
That offer seems kinda insane from BBG standpoint. Usually I’d be expecting 220-250k for a senior hire with 3.5 yoe. But BBG morale is relatively low rn. The downsides of the comp model mixed with external firms having a much firmer stance on WFH and BBG competing with FAANG offers has made people wanna leave. And of course the main product, the Bloomberg terminal, is nothing “sexy”.
I just left. Was making $180k with 3 years experience, and a top performer. If they had offered me like $230-$240k I would have stayed…ridiculous I was being paid less than a FSD.
Damn, as someone who just joined Bloomberg reading comments like this is discouraging. Hopefully management learns
If she plans on leaving within 3 years I'd pick Bloomberg. She could probably get a 2nd year signing bonus ~$40-60k. If she wants to stay long-term, go to LinkedIn.
YOE? Imo Bloomberg. Better WLB, better tech, NYC (if you want), easy to switch teams and tons of teams to switch to doing different things.
How easy is it to move to teams in SF? Yoe- 3.5
SF has very few eng teams.
