Interviewing both for infra and ml. How hard are the coding/algos rounds? Also, how hard are the systems design and ml rounds? How does working at linked in compare to other big cos.?
Best tip is not to interview at LInkedIn
is it really that bad? they're rated highly on glassdoor and I know a few good folks who work there
OK, it's not Uber bad or Amazon bad. But think about all other companies LinkedIn folks are moving to. Why not chase them? Be ahead on the game, not behind.
why the hate? I like working here a lot. Lots of freedom, company is very employee centric, high pay if you're a high performer...
Your mobile web app is the worst. The. Worst. But seriously, instead of implementing useful features for end users (how about some easy, small ones, e.g., proper resume authoring and export, or, from looking at a person's profile, being able to tell who else they worked with on a particular project or in a particular role), you'll spend the next 2-5 years moving onto the Microsoft infrastructure.
Meh messenger is worse
AppD- You guys are going ipo in few months why the rush to move unless you are contracting
good point. that's half the reason I don't want to interview unless the company's really good. We are growing at a good pace
LinkedIn have a internal database of 80-100 questions (algo, design etc), 99% interviewers will ask questions from it. Try to prepare all questions from Glassdoor, careercup website etc.
Infra interview is tricky. You need to clear every round nicely, especially those three infra rounds. Coding is easy. The hiring team is very picky about candidates, both in terms of interview results and personal qualifications. Don't know about ml.
What happened? If you are that good, you will go and work in FB or G.
Fb or g don't pay as good as li for similar level of talent. Linkedin hires fewer but pays insanely well. Hence the bar is high. You can literally get into fb as long as you know how to code algorithm Q, same for Uber .
Uber hasn't gone public. people move to such companies for stock hopes, not for the base.
Bar is high for Infra, but nothing you can't clear if you are comfortable with questions on Leetcode and are actively involved in design decisions at your current role (if not, read up about architecture of famous open source technologies and major companies)
is there a systems theory component as well, or is it larger scale design and architecture based?
mostly larger scale design and architecture based questions, with few system concepts where applicable
Interviewers vary in their difficulty. People love dp problems here for some reason. System design is tricky. Many people just flat out fail, but others just have too much hand waving going on. Know how to build a web service from the ground up. I always ask concurrency and tree questions. I've never conducted an ml interview.
