Companies that pay as much as meta
I am looking to find out about tech companies in the Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Baltimore Maryland (DMV) area that pay decently and don't exclusively do government work requiring citizenship or security clearance. I put what I know below, will edit based on comments. I group them based on similar pay tier. Please also correct my tiers or assign the untiered ones. Tier 1: Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, Dropbox, Splunk, Palantir Tier 2: Oracle Tier 3: Verizon Media, Walmart (Labs), PayPal Tier 4: Capital One, Washington Post Startups (similar to tier 4): Upside, StoryBlocks, maybe Fundrise Tier 5: TicketMaster, College Board Tier 6: Fannie Mae Untiered: Mapbox, Master Card, Yext, Shift, FiscalNote, Appian, id.me Maybe in the area: Github, Salesforce Seems like government work: Google, Microsoft
Facebook and Twitter use their DC offices for lobbying and legal activities mostly. Some tech roles but not many. Amazon has a lot of tech jobs due to HQ2. Don’t know much about the DC area activities of the other companies listed.
Before covid, the DC office opened up 400 new seats for eng. Who knows what happens to that now.
I think FB community integrity is moving to DC
I feel Dropbox is Tier 1/Tier 2 and not Amazon! Walmart Labs probably Tier 2/3
I think Palantir could beat all of the tier 1 companies you listed except maybe FB. I believe they pay people in DC similar rate as NYC and SF. New grads are getting like 200k+ TC or something like that.
What are palantir interview like? Sde1
Thanks for the info! How's working for Palantir? WLB, culture, interesting work, impact & growth... Etc
I think palantir is probably tier 0 for the dmv area. When I joined a few years back we paid the same regardless of what office you were at (NYC and SF TC). Assuming that’s still true for new hires paired with the liquid stock, the TC would be hard to beat unless your an L5.
Discovery (TV channel) in Silver Spring, MD. A decent option for DS, could also be software eng.
Was considering a move to DC area. The only thing stopping me now is availability of good paying companies 😒.
Okta has some remote roles now
FYI, Google chrome team is growing in DC
Thanks for the info!
@GqnC21 is there headcount for sde1?
Oracle listed as Tier 2 - wonder why ?
You work there, so tell me where it should land and I'll adjust accordingly. P. S. this is mostly based on pay
Lol i heard capital one does pay better than oracle (non-oci) in DC area
I think Visa is around there. You can also slot in Ticketmaster as F Tier.
I have 4 tiers right now. Are you suggesting tier 5 or tier 6?
What's the TC + YOE there if you don't mind?
