Hey everyone, I’m looking to move from HSBC to Deliveroo. I’m a little sceptical about moving to a smaller company than the one I’m currently in because loads of companies are laying people off left and right. My current job in HSBC is safe (I’ve been told so a week ago), but I’m finding it really unsatisfying for the past few months regardless of my many efforts to keep it interesting for me. Deliveroo has a lot of red flags like not being profitable and has a lot of rumours going bust. But I’m considering it because apparently the people are great and the culture is great too. Is this going to be a bad move? Any advice would be appreciated! Deliveroo = Deliveroo is a food delivery company that serves as an intermediary between customers and restaurants. Using the app, customers place (and pay for) an order, which is then conveyed to the participating restaurant. 1 vs 5 Million - no lifestyle change
Deliveroo is cool, but quite risky, lots of competition. If they're doing bad during covid with their crazy margins, when are they going to do well? 🤔
Yeah, probably because it’s kind of a luxury to constantly order in. Especially now that people are strapped for extra money or are being conservative about spending. Got a message from an ex teammate who used to be in Deliveroo but has now moved on to a better role: Apparently Deliveroo let go of about 30% of their employees and the majority of the remaining 70% have either left, planning to leave, or have stayed but have low morale.
Well fuck that. I was interviewing with them as a new grad for a DS role - very interesting and they pay well, but I still though I was better off at FAANG. How about a program management role at FAANG, or consulting at Palantir -have you considered those?
