Hi, I'm thinking of living in a car to save rent here in the bay area. Has anyone done it? What was your experience so far? My thoughts: 1. Purchase a used Subaru Outback and make the back of my car for sleeping. 2. I have 24 fitness membership, which I already have for gymming. I go there regularly. I can shower etc there. 3. Sometimes, I can go car camping in the wilderness and sometimes I can just sleep around Google campus or around 24 fitness parking lots or walmart parking lots. 4. I can keep my belongings which I do not use regularly in self storage for like $20-30 per month. 5. I'll spend most of my day in the office focusing on the work or around the office for a nap or sleep. 6. I can wash my clothes in Google laundry services. 7. I can get a locker in my Google office for free where I can keep shampoo, soaps etc. 8. For occasional peeing, I can do it in a bottle. Poop is something I do only once or twice a day, for that Google campus or 24 fitness is where I regularly visit. 9. For communication/mails, I can use a friend's address TC: 200k, L3
What’s the point if you need to live like a homeless
Save money for future
Gorappan
lol are you serious ?
Yes, I m thinking of buying a used Subaru outback with good sleeping space in the back.
I wish I lived like a broke student during my single days. I did spend decent money on some unnecessary things but if I hadn't , I would have set myself a lot better financially. Didn't think to that extent though
Do you regret the experience though?
The experiences no. But I also spent money on stuff that wasn't needed and wasn't really an experience. Didn't make a lot of smart financial decisions. Because it's way easier to save money when you're single without compromising experiences than when you're married
When I was working at google, one colleague on the same floor with me actually slept in his car in the google underground parking lot every day.
Where would you shit?
24 fitness and Google campus

Those car windows aren’t break in proof. Scary, especially in SFO.
In Mountain view. Not in SF
Why not just have roommates?
I don't like having roommates
Wow , shocking
What if you die before you can use your saving?
I don't plan for that as that's something that can happen to anyone anyday
You seem like a robot to me. Car will do for you. Infact, may I recommend a 4x4x4 ups box, sir.
Not in my backyard, you won’t. Oh wait, the police don’t do anything, do they…
What's your address? I'll try to avoid

I don't wanna own a truck. I'm looking to live in a normal sized car.
You really can't do it in a normal car because people will see you sleeping through the windows. Explore stealth camping. People do it in vans and there is a vibrant community that can help you. And since it is a van, you can use it like a normal car (just worse gas mileage).
