TC 130k @ 15 YOE. No one to blame. I need to fix it. Advice For those who are in beginning of their career - don’t settle in a company for more than 3 years unless you see personal and monetary growth. Keep grinding LC. One LC a day will keep all your problems away. UPDATE: overwhelmed by kind of response I’m receiving across the board. It really motivates me to push further on my preparation. Blind kept blocking me. May be it got some throttling setup, so updating post with few clarifications based on queries and comments Location: Phoenix LC: Leetcode. Don’t need to be leetcode, any programming exercise platform should be good. Took that as an example as it’s norm in interview context. Money over other priorities: while agree on this, I still think its much needed jump for me. Apologies if it’s misleading for any one who has different aspirations. I should have put it in different way to revise your priorities at least once in few years. And for me personally +/- 20% is ok. Any variance beyond that is too much to tolerate. will try keep posting on my preparation strategy once in a while to get some feedback from this awesome community. #tech #lcaday #donotstaylong

Thank you. 🙏
This is really inspiring! All the best, let’s go 🥳
Honestly just fuck work and this TC nonsense. This is all a neverending cycle of bullshit.
TC pays for a house, retirement, and whatever lifestyle one wants. People have FIREd on $1MM in LCOL areas living frugal lifestyles, but those of us who don’t want that need to chase whatever TC suits what we want.
You don't necessarily have to think of it in terms of TC. We're all craftsman, and certain organizations value the craft more. (E.g. we have an important seat at the table on product directions, vs things just coming on down from on high) Also, high TC doesn't necessarily equate to bad WLB.
What's your location? 150k is a lot in some parts of US
It’s 130 lol
Lol new beating down OP even worse
If it makes you feel better: TC 121k YOE: 13
Hey dude I’m not trying to compare with others. Instead doing a self retrospection on my mistakes & thought of passing the message to those who are new in this field. I will be happy even if at least one person realize on, what they need to do to grow in career. Trust me we are worth better for half of the work we do.
170k Canadian pesos, 19YOE. There are more things other than TC that matter, but we are on Blind and we are here for that one reason. OP: I wish you luck in your chosen path. And I have only one comment/suggestion: All Big Tech companies have "Bias for Action" among core principles. Don't grind LC for half a year before applying and interviewing. Start early, gain real interview experience and improve areas that you identified as weak.
I went from 135TC to 300K in one job change. You can do the same. Start leet coding, and system design prep. Start interviewing.
Nice 😎
Congrats. Getting LC motivation at this point is hard. Regardless I’m trying. My target is at least 3x by end of year. Or 2x in 6 months. Whichever comes first.
Oh, for fucks sake, my TC was like 100k at 15 yoe. Raised a family, bought a house, went on vacays, have a mil in investments. Nobody really needs a yacht and a beach house to be happy.
All that in 1940s ? Where can you do all that with 100k these days? Don’t misguide.
Arkansas.
110k with 15 yoe. Next move was 220k. Next 450k. Just a matter of time, go LC, go!
That’s great.
At Oracle ??.. great !!!
You didn't put location, but good luck on your next job. I'm also leaving soon.
Great. Hopefully you are moving out after taking bonus. Congrats. Good luck on your next job. I’m at Phoenix, AZ, however that doesn’t change the fact the salary is less.
LCOL, makes sense
OP is technically correct. But for those who don't want to grind LC, there are other ways to make more than 130k. There are startups and midsize companies who would pay a senior or architect anywhere between 180-280k salary. Not FAANG level, but not bad either. Mid-range pricing.
Most of the startups I’m coming across has LC criteria too.. isn’t it? Personally I like coding and design. I have intentionally ignored practicing LC for long time thinking there are such, But after seeing market situation decided to choose LC path as that’s the only option out there.
Have some friends at Instacart. They seem to be paying well and are fully remote.
Dude one job change and your wont be making that. The next employer has no idea, so just do it.
On it. Hopefully in next 6 months I can double it. Thank you.
You can triple it! Dude I’m seriously pissed to hear this - hate these financial companies for taking great engineers like you for granted Love you man
