I have 8 yoe from tier 2/3 companies and located in bay area. I have an offer from google for an L4 position, TC = Base 175k + 15% Bonus + RSU 280k/4 year + 20k bonus. Total = ~270/year (Avg. per year w/o bonus) this is google final offer. I have another offer from PayPal for MTS2 position, TC = Base 195k + 15% bonus + RSU 240k/3 year + 30k. Total = ~305/year (avg. per year w/o bonus) Google is where I always wanted to work (and learn), does it make sense to join google skipping the comp and role difference? I am thinking google may help me in long run and can open door to more opportunities, what's your opinion ? How average refresher looks like for PayPal & google for above roles? Will appreciate your thoughts/guidance. #engineering #software #swe #google #paypal #refresher
Google title worths $200k/year, go for it.
Where can they sell the title? eBay?
@ebay I was at Google briefly several years ago. Since I added it to my resume, I make it to the onsite stage about twice as often. I'm sure part of that is me getting better at interviewing, but it can't be entirely that since I struggle with most LC hards. The fact that Google is on my resume is probably why I've gotten my last few jobs.
8 yoe and MTS-2 is impressive. I would take PayPal. Google should offer you L5 else otherwise you are competing with PhD folks and 3 years experience folks. Which location?
Mountain View
I’d take Google personally. Also make it a poll
Google has a lot of teams to switch to. PayPal is more limited in terms of opportunities
Google offer is very low…u atleast have 100-150k rsu to negotiate… I would prefer google over PayPal in longterm
But dont think PayPal has high refreshers like Google
Have you tried pushing Google to up the offer?
yes, this is max they can as per recruiter.
I'd try to push recruiter to get more and be willing to walkaway (if you like PayPal). Nice thing about Google is the internal mobility that you can switch yes after a year and have a lot of different things you can try/learn. I don't know much about PayPal culture and refresher so hard to make a recommendation.
