YOE: 5 Current TC: 140 (lol) Both offers are fully remote, LCOL area. Meta E5 Offer Base: 192k Bonus: 15% (28.8k) RSU: 720k (25/25/25/25) Sign On: 60k Years 1-4 TC: 460/400/400/400 Google L5 Offer Base: 192k Bonus: 15% (28.8k) RSU: 545k (33/33/22/12) Sign On: 60k Years 1-4 TC: 460/400/340/286 Received Meta offer first, and Google's offer was their "match" in response to Meta. Meta doesn't even know about my Google offer. Will my Google TC really drop as much as it looks like it will? Does Google offer larger refreshers to prevent the huge TC drop that I'm calculating? Am I missing something else? #google #meta #facebook
Congrats
Congratulations OP! What was your preparation strategy for both? Can you share some suggestions
Congrats OP! Have read on Blind that Meta sign on can go upto 100k and RSU to 800k.
Probably not for a LCOL remote role
Meta has much higher refreshers and chance of promo, so way more money over time. Also, you won’t get Google refreshers until the end of next year. Meta stock is low right now so not a bad time to join. Meta if you like money/growth, Google if you like WLB. But there are teams at Meta with good WLB and teams at Google with bad WLB. So very team dependent.
Have a young family, so WLB is huge for me right now. But the lack of year 1 refreshers at Google is concerning. They don't even pro rate a refresher? Am I calculating those Year 1-4 TC numbers correctly? Will my Google TC really drop to 286 by Y4? (Assuming I'm still at L5)
They don’t prorate it. I believe you might get refreshers if you get EE ratings or something but not sure how common that is. Have you talked to the Google team and asked for expectations, to figure out what your WLB will be like? And no, of course not - that is the point of refreshers lol. It won’t be 286 but it won’t be your year 1 TC either. It’ll be somewhere in between.
Google offers yearly refreshers, though there is some fuckery around when you get your first grant. I believe the refreshers have the same vesting scheme as your initial grant, but having joined before the move to front-loaded I don't know for sure.
In any given poll that includes Google, divide number of votes for Google by 2 to get any kind of reasonable result. In other words, Meta. No, Google refreshers aren't better than Meta, it's the opposite. With each year, the TC gap will grow. Plus you're much more likely to get promoted at Meta.
😂
Congrats, nice offers. Can you share some interview experience? What was the biggest factor that made it go well?

Can you share some interview tips?
I probably did 80 LC over the course of 2 months. Probably 20 easy/40 med/20 hard. For system design, I tried grokking system design and was super underwhelmed. Would not recommend wasting your time with it. It's fairly unorganized, and has lots of grammatical mistakes that, IMO, indicate that the course isn't well constructed, or thought out. I watched lots of YT videos of mock interviews. Those were more helpful. Ultimately, system design interview success comes from real life system design experience IMO. I know that's probably not the answer you were looking for, but that's just my experience.
What yt video would you say most closely mimics that level of system design interview? I’m going for the same level and have done SD as part of my job but all the yt videos I watch all seem too high level
