Title says it all; recently cleared all interview loops. Had a director call and this delusional guy was boasting how "Loblaw is miles ahead of Amazon in technological innovation" - like calm down bro, you're not going to change the world by sprinkling AI on your little ecommerce like every other company is doing.... They were offering 180k for an EM role. FYI: Loblaw is a grocery chain in Canada that own most of the subsidies and have a monopoly on grocery due to corrupted government. They inflate the fk out of groceries, making it difficult for most Canadians and the average middle-class to get by. If you look at their stock price, it's due to price gouging strategies they've used since the pandemic to make things more unaffordable. Loblaw is one more reason why living in Canada sucks.
Most large Canadian companies are joking with comp. Even a startup will pay significantly more to an EM

That’s a Loblaw Law Bomb!
Are you sure a Canadian said “miles” instead of “kilometers”?
Lmao. He did indeed say miles. I wonder what he was smoking because I want some of that too. 😂
Read this as “Lowball Canada is a joke”
Whole food >> Loblaw
sounds like the Canadian telecomms oligopoly, sad to see it be part of other fields too but not unsurprising, I'm guessing Canada is going to follow US path in enshiftication
EM getting only 180k ? Smh
Yepp and despite that company complain they're "technically more advanced than Amazon"
180k USD or CAD?
Cad lol
What the fuck? I make more than that and I am a dev.
It's interesting when you compare them by market cap and see who is actually ahead. The other truth is none of the Loblaw tech folks can ever get hired at Amazon because Amazon operates in a different league.
My SDE-Is make more than their EM :')
