Hey Blinders, I just finished the interview process with Lockheed Martin - Aerospace defense company. They gave me an initial offer of $86k and illustrated a clear path to L2 within 1 year with a solid work life balance. My boy at Meta said he can get me a job as a SWE L2 with TC of $160k but he said the work life balance sucks and I would prob have to work 50-60 hours a week. Any thoughts on what the best decision is? TC: 72k
Leave defense
You’re early in your career do you really want to go straight into a dead end job?
I am surprised young people are so worried about wlb. Beat the shit out of yourselves and climb that ladder. Sometime in the future when you are mid 30’s you can slow down.
defense contractors are shit for young folks. trash tc wlb and so many boomers
Defense is lying when they say they have good wlb since you have billable hours. Actively working and billing 40 hours is more than the distracted “active” work time at faang
I worked at Lockheed Martin, absolutely the worst soul sucking nightmare of a company culture. You will pick up absolutely terrible habits working there with a bunch of dead enders who haven't changed jobs in 20+ years. Go literally anywhere else.
WLB > PAY
WLB definitely not a given. I work in Palmdale and we put in at least 50 to 60hr weeks, sometimes more depending on the schedule. There are also times when it slows down but usually we are pretty busy
That fucking sucks, I work half of that from anywhere in the world
Remember that a LM work week does not include lunch breaks. A typical 9/80 work day is 8am-5pm straight with no lunch. Meanwhile in tech I can do 8am-4pm, with an hour lunch and take Fridays off if I feel like it (no meeting fridays)
