Considering growth, money, and lifestyle, should I, as a software engineer with 10 years of experience moving from Stockholm, choose to relocate to London or Berlin?
Berlin. London is bleak.
London more finance, Berlin more fun. Both pay 🥜 (except HFT).
Berlin. No brainer
Berlin if you hate yourself, London is for living. QOL is higher in London vs Berlin (source: lived in both)
Why do you hate Berlin?
How about Munich? Much better weather than Berlin, cleaner and lots of tech companies. Admittedly the rental market is tough, but the proximity to the mountains, lakes and Italy, Austria and Switzerland are brilliant.
munich is not so good for non germans as berlin
I know several colleagues who don’t speak German and are getting along very well. Also found that almost anyone will speak English back to you if German isn’t an option. I agree dealing with the authorities is a challenge, but that is countrywide
Move to Tel Aviv, ton of tech options, much better food and nightlife and you deserve some sun after so many years in Sweden.
Visa is impossible right? Or not?
With a contract, it shouldn’t be too tough
Would be nice if you explained your priorities! London offers far more money. By far. Plus many more career options if you're the cream of the crop. At least in finance. But I hate the this place, it has no soul. It's the career option. Berlin is a nice place to live. It's full of coasters who don't get their shit together and this will at some day infect or break you. It's chill. Be aware that government services are awful and the customer is not king but laughed at. It's the WLB option.
London is light years ahead of Berlin.
