Looking for HR Career Advice: 2-year EA!

Hi All, I’ve been an executive assistant to a VP at a pharmaceutical company for about two (2) years, but it’s not what I want to do with my career path. Every time I’ve interviewed for a recruiting coordinator role, I’ve either been rejected due to lack of experience or reconsidered for an EA role which I don’t want! I definitely feel as though EAs and RCs have a lot in common, and I’ve been trying to translate this during my interviews. I’ve also been going for entry-level HR roles, and also have been getting denied for these due to “not enough experience, no HR experience, etc.” I’m in NJ and am going for my Master’s in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. I’m set to graduate in November of 2022. As aforementioned, I’ve been an EA for almost 2 years for a VP at a pharma company. Any advice as to how to break into the HR path? I’d love to speak to people for a referral as well— I’d love to prove my worth for an HR role! I’ve done internships in undergrad and also did some HR tasks as an EA! Thanks all! 🙏🏼 #hr #people #recruiting

Sort of was in a similar boat. Was trying to break into HR with a manager/PA background. It’s been difficult because a lot of places want high volume experience which I didn’t have and so many couldn’t see past that.. Unfortunately, you would have to go the entry’ish level way in. I’m not sure if they’re still looking but DM me, I may know of a company that could be hiring.

I was trying to break into HR with no experience. Eventually applied to an internal recruiter position and got it. Been recruiting for over 6 years now Agency recruiter jobs will be the easiest to land usually I’m starting at doordash next week. Happy to refer you to any opening then

It’s been a bit since you posted but I would always have my admin “interview” candidates and ask them for their feedback. It’s important to me how every level is treated…so I wanted to know how are they showing up…what kind person are they…also a good test is how they treat the waitstaff out over lunch…do they have manners, are they going to be east to work with… My MO we are all equal and when people come in with a hierarchical mindset and can’t respect a receptionist/admin and engage all levels down and up I don’t want them on my team. Perhaps there’s a way you can do that to help screen talent and use that to build your interview experience on the job?
