Looking for Work for my Friend

I am seeking guidance. I am a second year Canadian university student studying computer science at the University of Waterloo. I have a very intelligent and talented friend who is also in second year (2B) CS at Waterloo, but he's an international student and not in the co-op program. He has a very strong grasp of object oriented programming and data structures, and is able to speedrun our school assignments. The problem is that he does not have a lot of industry-specific skills such as frontend frameworks. He does, however, have a working knowledge of Git and is comfortable with shell-scripting. He is able to communicate well, and is passionate about everything he works on. He has an extraordinary work ethic and is somehow able to find time to self-study Japanese and piano on top of our workload. A couple fun facts about him is that he used to be a competitive go (weiqi) player, and he was Challenger on the Chinese super server in League of Legends (not sure if anyone cares about this one but I found it cool). Unfortunately, these skills are typically not found in the required section of most internship applications. I know it's really late into the season, and most internship applications for the summer term (May - August) are now closed, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any oppurtunities (it can be part time or just for 6-8 weeks) so that he can get some experience. He is a strong C++ programmer with an understanding of RAII, and he can pick things up really fast. I would appreciate any advice on his situation as well. Thank you for reading. TC: -16k (tuition)
