I've been with my current employer 4 years as a consultant in the Professional Services dept. (two years with a Senior TC title) based out of SE Michigan and I'm hoping to find both a better job & salary for my career growth plus a more favorable climate to live in. My employer is a small software company that isn't growing very fast and I've pretty much hit the peak of my potential here. I travel 50-80%, current salary 84k, bonus 8-10k, and per diem allowance is provided for food when I travel. I was considering the DFW area if I were to continue traveling (AA Executive Platinum status) but overall just want to move on to a better company. Any suggestions? Just some extra info: Employer's software is a business intelligence dashboard building tool, I also have experience with SQL, and I've pretty much worked with customers in almost every industry imaginable.
I was born and raised in TX...if you're relocating from MI are you ready for the heat?
I believe so. I had many trips to TX over the last 4 years and enjoyed the climate overall. I'd rather be too hot than too cold :)
Overall cost of living is cheap (except for Austin). Would pick Ft Worth over Dallas, Houston over Ft. Worth and Austin overall.
Use that specialization to move outside of consulting. BI will always be necessary.
I'll tell you what, if a BI position will pay a good bit more than consulting and I get to travel less too, I'm all for it! It'll be nice to settle down a bit
I now live in NC and found it to be a good mix of weather.
Not looking to discourage you, South Florida does not have a good cost of living, explore north, central and gulf coast for better cost of living.
Relevant for FL: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/business/technology/article12544070.html A sad reality that will take years to change.
Several of the companies I've worked for have presence / offices in the Tampa / Lakeland area, but not sure what the cost of living is there.
Microsoft has thousands of "partners" that are consulting shops and they're always hiring. Shouldn't be hard to find one with a Dallas office.
