I am considering buying a small land and hire a builder to build a 2300-2400 sq ft house in Seattle area. Has anyone done this before? Can you please share some detail/? I can also look at the option to hire sub contractors for plumbing & electrical.
Which area in Seattle? Was thinking to do the same thing. But a bigger lot and build 3 houses with three people chipping in.
Yeah that’s also an option. Hiring a small builder to do the job for 3 houses would be easier. Have u explored anything about it? How big of a land do u need for a home? What would be the cost of construction?
Looking at Sammamish & Woodinville area. I can also look at Bothell if that’s a lot cheaper.
A huge pain in the ass. Be ready to do a lot of research/planning work instead of your contractors and pay at least 1.5x of the initial estimate if you want quality. Also, good luck finding a proper piece of land anywhere closer than 2 hours in traffic everyday. Better buy something in a decent location (eg. 98033) requiring TLC, do some remodeling and enjoy your life. Btw, you can always extend an existing house and double it in size if you’re really into construction mess.
