I am planning to donate my entire paycheck of this year. 500k+. However, I would like to do as much of direct donation myself and not go via ngo/npo. Following is my criteria: 1. Economic hardship 2. Interest and potential to learn 3. Marginal money can fill in big blank. If you know someone who could benefit, lmk.
Doctors Without Borders or Paws. Either makes you a hero.

Wondering why are you asking here but not people living on the streets?
Because I am so far away in this land of illusion than I have lost touch with true people
Almost like you need a team of people or an organization to help you find these people in need and verify they need help and the help they need.
wow. thats amazing man. why? are u done with your retirement savings?
I volunteer me. Check your dm mate.
Donate to me ;)
Do you fit the criteria?
Yes
Noble, but note that donating to random people isn't a tax write-off, so you'd actually be out 700k ish
Yes, I would be out of all and wouldn't be writing that off my taxes.
That's really nice of you to live off your savings like that. TBH sometimes I want to do the same. Maybe once I get a green card and have some security. Anywho, I do know some people (retired vet, rent issues etc). They have a long running GoFundMe. Should I dm you the deets?
I did something like that with a windfall a couple decades ago (100K not 500K though perhaps it had same buying power). Gave a quarter of it in 1% chunks to colleagues that I’d worked with, as unsolicited checks in the mail. Gave another quarter in bigger chunks to the usual NGO nonprofits. And I selected two local charities where I’d volunteered, and were run by acquaintances, to get a quarter each. What was interesting about the larger donations was that I overwhelmed one of them: their previous budget was small and they didn’t manage the new amount well. Survived a couple years, then collapsed. The other one (Youth Tech Entrepreneurs) lasted a good many years and I was glad to help get a lot of careers started through them. Edit: as I wrote this, someone noted that some types of donations aren’t tax deductible (individuals, foreign charities etc). I didn’t base my decisions on tax savings.
My mom worked in NGO. That's why I prefer to do direct donations.
And the NGOs always have a lot of fundraising overhead and waste. It does feel better to give direct unsolicited amounts to bypass the overhead at least, though you have to accept that waste will always be a part of any human endeavor.
If you can help with a couple of hundred $, I will share with you the video of handling of the lady in her place the money (The lady in Africa)
What do you mean?
I mean there is a lady in Africa that needs help, if you can donate to her, i can transfer the money, and my brother there can do a live video with you showing where your money is going.
That's a good move. There are a few more things that you should consider. You'll feel much more proud and better if you know the person you're trying to help. Similar to directly donating to NGOs, helping out someone random will make you doubt if money actually served its intended purpose. I'd suggest you wander across the street or visit places and talk to people in need to understand their circumstances and see if you could help them out. It'd be even better if you could see them progressing. I know it sounds like a lot of trouble and that's why many NGOs with 50% or less actually used for activities thrive while filling their own pockets. I also think that it gives you an opportunity to learn more about the world and experiences from a different perspective. If you don't really want the trouble and still maximize on value. Visit your school or college and help out folks in need of financial assistance. Charity isn't as easy as it seems. There's a lot of cheaters out there. To ensure you're making the right investment, you'll need to observe people around you and donate when you feel right about circumstances. Simply donation 500K at once doesn't truly help. Lastly, I'm happy to know that someone is willing to help others. Kudos to you!
Yes, agree to "charity isn't easy". It's surprisingly difficult.
