I am seriously debating if I should ask my company to transfer me to Canada as a remote employee. I don’t think my early 2015 priority date stands a chance of getting a green card any time soon. Going back to India is not an option due to quality of life issues. What are all of you planning to do after this disappointment? #workvisa #h1b #rfe
list "quality of life issues" for me
Go before Canada tightens up too.
How long does it take to be a citizen in Canada?
That's what I've been thinking too. But then I think, less opportunities in Canada. And what am I really gonna do there that I can't do here. If I want to build my own product, I can do that here too, and if it really takes off then visa will probably not be a big issue. Also I'm also probably still gonna want to be working in the industry to make money. They only thing I think I'm missing out is the ability to take risks with start ups. But there aren't as many interesting start ups in Canada as US.
If you want stability, better move to Canada. Getting rid of the visa hurdles is a big relief. Trust me.
Did you move already? Can I DM you?
I've heard of people becoming citizens in Canada and then still being allowed to work in the US without issues through some program they have. Not sure if that still applies and is true, but sounds intriguing. Looking at relocation bro Canada right now, partially because the US immigration was not an option/too complicated and we really like Canada.
I think you’re talking about TN status: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/TN_status
What’s the problem? Indian queue doesn’t take hundreds of years. It’s bounded by 21!
Let us say 25 if you have a child and accounting for processing time. That’s almost a third of a lifetime right there which could be spent free somewhere else or traveling the world
Then go buy a wife in vietnam or Indonesia. Use exchange of priority date. What do you want? If you want to spend it somewhere else then perhaps you don’t need the green card at all.
I think anyone who has PD after 2015 should consider moving to Canada. You will get permanent residency and citizenship by the time your date becomes current here. If your date becomes current your employer can still file your I485. One of my friend got Canadian citizenship and now working in US and he will het GC in few months.
I was starting to get optimistic about priority date movements but I am finally coming to terms with the fact that America wants me only for my skills, and not for me to be a part of the society here
How your i140 remains in place if you leave company or place and go to canada?
You are most likely Indian or Chinese. The two groups that earn the highest in US. So it's the govt scam to keep you on H1 as long as possible so that you pay 7.5% of your salary for social security and medicare that you are not even eligible for 🤣. It is easier to become a citizen here illegally than legally. Forget it. Unless you marry a local, green card and citizenship is a pipe dream for many. Try Singapore or New Zealand or UK
Singapore - I don’t want to be on a visa again. New Zealand - I can’t keep my fb job and I have no clue about the country. UK is feasible but between the UK and Canada, Canada is culturally and geographically closer to the country I spent a third of my life in already
Really? A scam? No one is holding you here. You're welcome to go back to India or China at any time. But you won't.
Mine is 2020😳
