I’m at odds with what I want to do. Was laid off in June, working in lending with ~3 years of fintech behind me. I love strategy + comms + revgen, but also loooove design. Launched a stock trading app in ‘21 in China. Built the stickiest pages in ‘20. Rebranded a firm for WallSt in ‘19. Problem is I’ve always landed more mktg spots than design, so I lean away from design. Getting interviews for PMM and Growth now, but not landing yet. Not enuf experience for #ui/ux (I think), but I’ve done some good. What would you do? YoE: 7yrs TC: 90k
What was your concentration in at school? It seems like you enjoy design far more than marketing. If I were you, I’d say do what you love and pursue it as a true craft. Then move into being an art director. And perhaps after that, make a lateral move over to creative director. But don’t listen to me — really…. I’ve never been in it for the money…
Massive drought for PMs who understand the design process so I would say that’s a huge path to success. Just remember to not give your designer design feedback if you aren’t their design leader, but only their product leader.
Depends on the designer. I want feedback from all fronts because I want to be more than a person that makes stuff look pretty.
Gotcha. I’ll keep that in mind!
